New Garage Door - Advice Needed

From what i understood when i did my shopping for doors a few months ago is they are the same doors. They are made for Home depot or Menards or whoever and use a different name to be "exclusive". Just be sure to have them read the fine print when ordering so you know exactly what you are getting...

Sheathing, Foam, and Wrap. opinions needed

Sorry, there is batt insulation in the wall cavities... The foam was the only sheathing used. No wind bracing... Not very well built. They got away with quite a bit. Inspections were done from the road.

Sheathing, Foam, and Wrap. opinions needed

I think i may have come up with a plan. The two side foiled foam on the house is 3/4" and not 1/2" like i thought... It says on it it is R-5. weather it has degraded some or not, it still has to have some R value and i already have it and can't see tossing it. So what i am thinking is putting up...

Contracts signed - looking for insulation help

1"? what are you going to use for stringer? i always used 1/4", usually oak to be stained, ply. then a cap finishes that off. if the whole step is held off the wall then the stringer wont need to be cut. if the steps run to the wall you just need to notch the overhang flush to the riser a little...

What's the upside - why is blown fiberglass 300% more than blown cellulose?

yea, i think Owens corning new marketing is "Eco-Touch" or some thing like that. i had a old bag and the new stuff i just bought. the few year old bag was a brighter pink and i was a little itchy after cutting and placing it. The new rolls are a whiter pink and i wasn't itchy at all.

What's the upside - why is blown fiberglass 300% more than blown cellulose?

Our house has the cellulose. i hate it. anytime i have to go in the attic for anything i have about 10 seconds before i can't see or breath. and like others have pointed out that i never thought about, the weight. in some of our bigger rooms i can push on the drywall and get what feels like 3/8"...

    New garage - very dissapointed!!!

It just seams to me that rebar and some filled/tied cores is even beginner common sense. I did my footings and block myself, never did any block work before or even watched it being done. about 5 minutes looking online is all it takes to learn there should be rebar and the footings look like...

Vinyl siding trans. from regular to shake - help

I bought the slot punch tool as well as the lock tab punch tool. I guess i'll just have to see where the last piece of regular siding ends up. Another way i have heard it being done is to step out the shake area. i guess some foam could be used. I don't want to go that way either because i have...

Vinyl siding trans. from regular to shake - help

I'm starting the siding on my garage addition. We decided to put some shake style up on the gable. Plan is to start it as close to flush with the bottom of the over hangs as i can. I know this is pretty common but never really looked at how they transition from the regular siding to the shakes...

My 24'x30' attached garage addition progress

Ben, "Disheartening" is a perfect word for the feeling... i have been moving stuff over the cracks just so i don't see them. Rep from the cement company came out Friday to look at it. He agreed it is pretty bad and is sending out a guy to do some density test with some sort of spring machine...

I'm in Hillman, about 30 miles west of Alpena. Yea, i was concerned about wind and the shingles not laying. So far they have stayed on. if i can remember right in the valleys we had the ice and water running into the corners at the bottom, ice and water running up the valley, roof felt from each...

Sheathing, Foam, and Wrap. opinions needed

Oldwizard, that is my plan on putting the OSB right on the studs. the house was built with just the foam. it is no wonder there is nail pops and cracks in the drywall everywhere. house was built in 1979 and i guess, from looking at a lot of houses around here, that is how they did it then...
