    Spark plug socket opinions

I’ve never liked the rubber insert type. Seems like I could never get the plug out, or the socket would stay on the plug when reinserting. I used to knock the rubber insert out of them and basically have just a deep socket (and I’ve used plain deep sockets plenty too). Seems like sears used to...

    Plier holder for a drawer

I cut up a wire dish draining rack for my pliers drawer. Sorry no pics but it was cheap and works well for me.

    automotive 12 point fasteners

Water cooled VW pressure plates are maybe 9-10mm 12pt. I forget now. I had a Saturn that had a 12pt damper bolt, I think it was 23mm (it’s been a awhile). That same Saturn had a couple E-torx head bolts (I believe all GM ecotech 2.2’s has them)

    vulcanizing compound and tire plugs

Interesting discussion. I’ve plugged numerous tires over the years and have only had one failure. Years later it started to leak, so I pulled it and put in a new plug. I’ve never used any additional fluids or cements with them, but I do need some new plugs so I’ll have to research now.

    Air nailer?

I’ve got an old Porter Cable FN250 16ga nailer that has trimmed a dozen houses and completed numerous other projects over the last 20 or so years. I just replaced the rubber nose piece on it last year, otherwise it’s been great. I also picked up an 18ga for smaller projects (I forget the...

    Mechanic Tools: Husky or Dewalt

My local Ace is going all in on Dewalt hand tools now. They pulled all the Tekton, compressed the CM tools and put in Dewalt. I’m hoping the Tekton stuff they pulled to make room shows up in their clearance section soon.

Where to mount your hose reel

My garage has 2 side by side overhead doors, with just enough room between them for the hose reel. I mounted it almost against the outside wall, I can reach anywhere in the garage, and 2 car lengths into the driveway with it. One of the best things I ever did in my garage...I hate to think how...

Back up tool set Harbor Freight ?

I e done similar. I have an old ‘stack on’ chest that I was given in the shed with mostly HF tools to support my lawn & garden equipment. I’m also putting together a ‘travel kit’ as I’m finding myself spending more and more time going to parents and in-laws to help with projects. Mostly things...

Installing air lines with hose reel

I did this about a year ago, and I also think you can’t go wrong putting in plenty of unions and ball valves. I put in unions near anything that I may want to remove, like the filter/reg, to connect the hose reel and I even used one in the middle of the longest run.

    General ratcheting technique question

Most times once it reaches that point I just use my fingers to spin the bolt out if I can reach it. You could use a power ratchet or impact to spin it off, or speeder or T-handle, nut drivers...the options are nearly endless

    Craftsman Sockets Question

I happened across a sears outlet yesterday that I didn’t know existed. They had a rack of single sockets, the ones I picked up were made in USA. I wished at that point that I knew what I needed to complete my set...

    Drum Brake Tool Set--recommendations needed

I’ve also done a lot of drum brake work without special tools. Basic tools will usually get the job done. And old guy I knew used a socket for the retaining spring clips. It is pretty amazing how much brake spring pliers help though.

Keeping a few Brake lines on hand....which ones?

Brake lines were always one of those things I avoided. Then my kids car needed all the lines replaced, and instead of paying nearly what he paid for the car to a shop I picked up a couple rolls of NiCop line, some fittings and the Mastercool flaring set linked above and it was an easy job...

    Cordless conundrum

I’ve been using the Ryobi stuff for nearly 20 years now and still have all of the first set I bought (although the brushes in the drill are about gone). I’ve been happy with it for home use. I’ve even done some job work with my bil and my Ryobi 1/4 impact kept up just fine with his Dewalt...

    Bostitch N80 Fraiming Nailer

I have an old N80SB. The nose piece on them is adjustable to set depth of drive. It has 2 small nylock nuts you have to loosen, and then you can adjust the nose piece and tighten the nuts.

Cutting the cord? Send my corded tools to the garage sale?

Personally I stick to corded for heavy duty applications, but cordless is nice especially when away from power. I don’t doubt that some of the newer cordless tools can match or beat the corded tools and they will continue to improve. That said a quality corded tool is probably a lifetime tool...

    Making a better tape-measure

I love that every tape measure holder is designed to perfectly hold the old 25’ power-lock tapes. Go ahead and buy a new fancy tape, it won’t fit in the pocket on your bags. And I am somewhat disappointed that I can’t seem to find replacement tapes for them.
