1966 Clausing Drill Press VFD Help?

A motor that old is not rated to run on a VFD. That being said, the consequences come when running at slow speeds, the motor overheats. Takes a while, depends on the load. For home/hobby use probably not a problem. I have three phase motors on drill presses and a round column mill which are...

    Air Compressor issues!

Is that a true 5 hp motor, or a 5 hp spl?? How many amps does the motor nameplate rating specify?? Some of those 5 hp spl (special) motors are closer to 3 1/2 hp and will not run a 5 hp rated pump at full pressure.

    South Bend lathe taper attachment

I see pieces like this on ebay all the time. Seem quite pricey to me. Other than the hassle of shipping, might be worth it. Do a search on ebay, and see. This is the most valuable piece(s) for a taper attachment, other pieces can be fabricated.

Help me find the right starting capacitor

If it doesn't hum when you turn it on, likely not the cap. The run winding is in the circuit when you flip the switch and will hum.

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

I'd be willing to bet there is one run winding, one start winding, total of four leads from the motor. I'd see if I could source a replacement from China. I gather you are not ion a hurry, saves a lot of money.

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

I don't think you're looking at a lot of cash. If you want to bring it to my place, PM me, I work for free. And, Mike is 5 minutes away and a good enough friend I can ask for advice, he won't mind. I can't imagine, givien the cosmetics, that there is anything seriously wrong with that hoist...

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

The hoist has two limit switches which stop the motor when the chain reaches either extremity. If it goes in one direction, it has the ability to run in the other, if fed the proper current. The limit switches are similar in appearance to the limit switches in garage door openers. Typically...

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

That "110 volt converter may be a Sinpac. Forget the technical name, that's a brand name. You can call Mike at All Electric if you don't want to drive. If he's there, he'll talk with you. No charge for advice, and it's good. That thing looks to be all original, not tampered with. Virtually...

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

PS The brake is not in the gear box. If it is not leaking and there is oil in it, I'd leave it alone. If it is empty, I'd fill it and wait to see if it leaks. This hoist is cosmetically in good shape. Should run if fed the correct current. It's interesting that the voltage name tag rating...

2 ton electric chain hoist problem

This hoist has an electromagnetic brake so if it is stuck (highly unlikely) it wouldn't go either direction. It would run on a 120 volt plug IF it was fed three phase, one each thru each wire, bad business, can not be grounded. If you are willing to ask for some advice, drive to north Puyallup...

    Black iron gas pipe

I have a friend who was a pipefitter in the Navy. He attempted some gas piping for his daughter. The problem with the cheap pipe was the threads were of such poor quality he could not get them to seal. And, the steel was such that cutting his own threads didn't work. He wound up getting some...

    In ground lift identification

I have and use an inground lift, in my hobby shop, bought used, installed by me. 33 years ago. I've heard it is possible to fill these with a non-polluting oil (vegetable oil??). There should be a pipe plug in the top of the ram. Removing the plug allows the oil to be dipsticked, and pumped...

    Engine Hoist Jack Rebuild?

If you have time, take it apart and look at it. I don't know about where you live, where I live there are several stores that sell seals, do a search. Seals are cheap, it's easy to do, what have you got to lose??

    40x40x10 BTU’s needed

I have a 40' x 40' with 12' ceiling, well insulated, but 3 10' x 10' uninsulated garage doors, lots of glass. I keep it at 40 degrees minimum, don't want anything to freeze. Turn it up to 60 when I go in. I have a 150,000 BTU ceiling furnace because it was surplus (thirty some years ago) and...
