    Belt drive grinder build finished

I think it turned out alright. The sheet of plastic is a guard. I know it's ugly, it's temporary. My old bench grinder was a piece of **** Black & Decker from the 90s. I think an upgrade to a belt drive. I sacrificed one of my motors from my collection, not really a sacrifice, as it's not that...

    Old belt-driven grinder bearing question

I have an old belt-driven grinder, made almost from scratch by my great-grandpa. Of course, the bearings are shot. The bearings have a lip on either side and are held in by these 2 metal brackets. One was held in by JBweld. My question is, can I take the shaft collar (bottom left of picture) and...

How do I get the old oil out of pump oiler?

As the title says. Pretty sure it had chainsaw oil, but it sat in the bottom for a long time. I have it filled with water, Fast Orange, and some mystery soap. When emptied there is still a black sludge im the bottom, any ideas? I plan to use it for my electric motor oil.

Old electrical plug, any info about the brand?

Niche topic but still interesting. Found this in one of the shelves in the garage from the 50s. I imagine it was my great-grandpa's, a lot of the stuff there was his. I have never seen this brand before, the only thing I could find is a Meteor electrical wholesale place. Any info on its age or...

Shop fan made from AC unit fan

Has anybody done this before? I have one with an ECM motor, and I might find a different one to use. I haven't seen anyone do this before. Is this a good idea? I would obviously build a cage and guard.

Old Delco (Frigidaire) Repulsion motor brush lifting issue

I just received this motor in the mail today, but it appears that the brush lifting mechanism is acting strangely, sometimes leaving the bottom two brushes connected. I have a video of it I will add. I took it apart and reassembled it, and it made no difference. It also makes a quite obnoxious...

Vintage 1/15 HP GE motor oil leak!

I posted a thread about this the other day, but I since got the motor running. I may have forgot to mention the inside of the motor was coated in oil, now I found out why. I added my own 3 in 1 motor oil and I noticed a little bit of the old oil started running out of the overflow, then a puddle...

Vintage 1/15 HP GE motor wiring cleanup

(I'm doing a full restoration of this motor, ill post another thread about the whole thing.) I just got this motor in the mail today, the wiring is... disgusting. The entire inside of the motor is coated in some sort of oil, the wires also have some weird gray substance, its quite sticky. How...

    1940 - 50s GE Motor wiring

I have had this motor for about a year now. I found it in a barn, and I guess it was my great-grandpa's. I cosmetically restored it, long story short I'm varnishing the windings tomorrow. I'm a bit confused by the terminal plate for this motor. The original wiring was neutral to 4, hot to 3, and...

GE "Lead R Line" Motor terminal cover

My first post here, I have a GE Compressor motor that I just got working again, but I don't have a terminal cover for it. I could make one, but the connectors I'm using stick out a little further than where the cover would go. I could either make one or maybe find one for sale. The end housings...
