I need to get 2 continuous runs of 54' of trough and 2 downpipes/downspouts for 12ft walls. What, on average should I expect for cost, installed? Thanks GJ!

What's your hot water tank set to?

I moved into a new place last fall and the water temp here is ridiculous. I turned it down from 160F to 105F and it still seems too hot. Should I keep going down until I don't burn myself on full hot? Or is there a reason to keep it that warm? I'm sure it didn't do my electricity bill any...

Radiant floor circulator pump in the summer?

This may be a dumb question, but I'm getting conflicting information. I'm being told to leave my circulation pump running all summer long to keep it from seizing/gumming up. I'm using a Grundfos 3 speed pump with glycol in my system. This seems very strange to me. I don't think there is...

Outdoor GFI plugs on new shop - choices?

I will be using "in use" boxes/covers that are now mandated, but I'm wondering if there is any reason not to use 20amp GFI circuits on the outside of the building for the 4 receptacles I'll be installing. My house has no accessible plugs on the outside of the garage, so the shop would be the...

    Controlling humidity in the shop

My shop is 2000sqft with in floor heat. I have a couple snowmobiles, my truck and a tractor that come out fairly regularly and need to be melted off when they come back in. Once they've melted off, the humidity ends up in the 50-65% range. It normally sits around 30%. This normally wouldn't...

High and low limits for slab sensor thermostat?o

This is my first time setting one up. Let's say I want the ambient temp to be 55-57, how do I figure out what my high/low limits should be? I'm running 80 degrees for feed temperature, 60 degree return. Thanks in advance.

Used oil storage? How do you do it?

I have a number of vehicles/toys that all require oil changes  I take my oil to the landfill once a year and dump it into their recycle tank. I usually end up taking 20 gallons or so. I have always used a 30gal tank inside the shop that I pour into 5 gallon pails to transport, but would...

    New construction: welding outlet

I am 1/2 way through the wiring in my new shop and want to get the welding outlet done. The only problem is, I don't have a 220v welder yet. I know it's a 50a outlet, but what should I size the breaker/wire for? I know it's not rated at continuous load, but I'm not clear on the rules for...

Shop exhaust fan for cold weather application?

What is everyone using to exchange the air in their shop when running a vehicle or welding etc? The twist is that it's COLD here in the winter when I may be wanting to run a sled, truck, tractor or racecar inside. When the fan isn't in use, I'd like a little more than some metal slats...

First hydronic floor setup - many questions

I just finished the install on my in floor heat setup and I have a few questions. Ok, maybe a lot :) Some details on my system: 2000sqft R21 walls R50 ceiling 2" XPS under the slab, on the side of the thickened edge and 4 feet around the building, 4" thick on the door side of the shop 7 loops...

In floor heat - do I need individual shutoffs on each loop?

I'm about to install my boiler system this weekend and one thing is bothering me. I've got the Watts manifolds with flow gauges etc but I don't see any way to isolate a single loop from the hot side. I can restrict flow on the cold side, but that's it. Should I install shutoffs on each hot...

Show me your garage door wiring

I'm interested in seeing the cleanest way to run the wires for the door sensors, cable tension sensor and keypad. The way the installers left the wiring..... leaves something to be desired. LOL I'm thinking of doing it in 1/2" conduit and have 3 doors with Liftmaster 3800s if it matters.

    WiFi controlled light switch?

I would like to be able to switch the outdoor lighting on my shop on/off from the house using my iPhone, as well as a manual switch inside the shop. The shop has Wifi access as well as gigabit ethernet connectivity to the house. What are you guys using to do this sort of thing? Thanks!

Insulating the ceiling - blow in only or batts and blow in?

I'm about to sheet my ceiling and I'm not sure what is the best way to achieve as close to R50 as possible. The building is 40x50 with scissor trusses. 4/12 outside pitch and 2/12 inside. Thanks in advance!

    Pushing underground cable - cost?

I need to get the feeders for my shop pushed underground. What can I expect to pay for this service? It would be roughly 180 feet. Thanks in advance.

Concrete hardener at pour time: Yes or no?

I'm getting ready to pour the pad for my new shop that will have radiant in floor heat. The concrete guy offered me the option of adding a hardener that will be power troweled into the pad. What are your thoughts on it? Cost is 80c/sqft. Thanks.

Meter socket options for new shop build

I'm going to be building a shop next month and will require a 200 amp service. My current meter is a Thomas-Betts (Microelectric) CO2-200G. I need to retain the 200amp disconnect on the meter because of the way the service is fed to my panel in the home. Ideally, I would have a JS4 (dual...

    Where to buy Bend Pak?

I'd like to get the XPR-10A, I'm in Canada. I have the ability to haul and unload it myself and will travel to the US if there is money to be saved. What are you guys paying for your lifts and from where? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a "cold storage" area in their garage?

If so, post up some pictures. I'd like to store my 24 foot enclosed trailer inside to keep it out of the elements and I'd like to see how you did it, or what you'd do differently next time. Thanks!
