    Creeper for gravel/dirt driveway

What do you guys use to get under your vehicles when parked on gravel/dirt? I've used long plastic snow sleds (which often crack on me), big pieces of plywood and even a tarp sometimes. I imagine you can buy an "off road" creeper for such a situation, but I doubt they come cheap.

    Automotive Forum Recommendation?

Wondering if anyone recommend an online automotive forum they've had good experience with. I've been studying up on how to understand more of the data my OBDII scan tool provides, and have some questions Google hasn't been able to answer. This wouldn't be manufacturer specific, rather more...

    Pliers with extra slip joints?

Just wondering if there are pliers available that have >2 pivot points on them. Something like a channel lock, but not angled like those are, .

    Battery float charger vs maintainer

Seems to be enough articles explaining the difference between a float and trickle charger, but couldn't find much on this topic. Does a maintainer combine both a regular battery charger and a float charger into one unit? I know floats aren't meant to charge a battery that are significantly...

    Masonry Grind Wheel Over 7"?

Anyone know if there are masonry grinding wheels for angle grinders that would be around 10" or so? This would be the depressed style. The only ones I've been able to find max out at 7",

    Ridgid Lifetime Warranty vs LFA

I see some tools from the Ridgid brand are advertised as having a "lifetime warranty" while others have a "Lifetime Service Agreement." Kind of confusing. I get the feeling the lifetime one doesn't cover wear while the other one does. Anyone know what the difference is?

    Electrical soldering propane tip

Anyone know where I could find a tip which would fit on the end of a propane torch so I can do some electrical soldering? Kinda similar to those little butane buggers where the flame heats up a solid tip, rather than the flame heating the work directly. I have some lower gauge wire I'd like to...

    Zinc Electroplating

However you've been doing it, it's wrong. Check out this video on the proper way:

    Uneven plywood subfloor

My apologies in advance if this question hasn't been asked a bunch of times already I tried a search but didn't come up with much  I've got a plywood subfloor that's uneven and wasn't sure exactly how to go about tackling it. I eventually want to put tile on top, but obviously cant do with...

    Marketplace find

Saw this on the local Facebook listing and was wondering what you guy think. Is it worth the $200 asking price? The thought of not needing to swing one of those things around anymore (or at least getting a nice tingling feeling when I pick it up) makes it very tempting.

Charging external battery via cig lighter

I like to keep an extra 12V battery in the back my truck, just in case I need to give myself a jump. Instead of dragging out the household charger to keep it topped off now and again, I was wondering if I could just charge it via the cigarette lighter using a cig lighter plug and alligator...

    Craftsman "Evolv" and Stanley B&D

Anyone happen to know if Stanley has any plans to put out any tools under the Craftsman Evolv name? The Sears by me has some killer deals on the them-all with that restrictive lifetime guarantee- but I have concerns once the store inevitably closes I won't be able to get replacements on them if...

    Muriatic acid rust removal.

I'd like to remove some scale inside a pancake air compressor (doesn't look rotted to the point of pinholes). All parts have been removed and it's just the tank I'm dealing with. I wanted to swish some muriatic acid around in there to help clean it out, but heard some people say the acid can't...

    Wheel Balancing Really Necessary?

I know it sounds like heresy, but I've been wondering if you have a nice undamaged wheel, which is squeaky clean on the inside, and a brand new tire, how important is it really to balance the thing? It's tempting to think after 100 or years manufacturers are probably putting out some pretty...

    Sawzall Blade Broke In Tool

I just had the tang break off inside the chuck of my Super SawzNone. For the life of me, I just can't get the darn thing out. I tried side tapping it with a hammer, using a dental pick and wasting my time with a magnet. I looked at the exploded diagram of the tool to see how to get the chuck...

    Pipe cutter on PVC

Just wondering if anyone out there might know if I'd be able to use a pipe/tube cutter (similar to the one pictured) to make acceptable cuts on PVC, or even ABS for that matter. I've had good results using a metal chopsaw to cut PVC in the past, but obviously can't really use that in all...

    Connecting 2 chains together

I need to pull out a tree stump, but I can't get my truck in far enough to use only 1 chain. I have 2 which would make it long enough but just want to make sure I connect them right before going ahead with it. Both sets have the usual clevis "grab hook" design on either end, where you can loop...

    Air Compressor Supply Hose

I need to replace a rubber supply hose or whatever it's called which goes from the compressor head to the tank on my pancake air compressor. It's 1/4" ID. I'd rather use something like soft copper or brake line there considering the heat that's present, but there are no fittings on the head end...

Testing Auto Fuses with Ohm Meter

I was wondering if I could use the (Ohm) continuity buzzer on my multi meter to accurately test for blown automotive ATC blade-style fuses while they're still plugged in the fuse box. I know some use a volt meter to test for voltage present on either end of the nubs on those fuses, but using the...

Cleaning Foam Air Filter with Gasoline

Is it OK to use gasoline to clean a foam air filter (pre-filter or main oiled one)? I've used it in the past and it certainly does a good job in the cleaning dept., but I'm wondering if I'm damaging it/making it less effective as a filter. I know these things have to deal with gas vapor and...
