    Nails for LSTA36

Hi Guys Can't find LSTA21 locally for my header to stud connection, but can find LSTA36 (I assume that will be OK). Looking at chart here: http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors/HRS-ST-PS-HST-LSTA.asp I'm not clear on what length nails to use. It says 24 x 10D and at bottom: Loads...

Help With Gable End Sheathing, Shingling, Trim

Hi Guys Got my walls and trusses up. Cut truss tails and installed 2x6 sub-fascia boards. Going to be sheathing and shingling roof at weekend, but I'm unclear about the detail of the gable end. I'll be using the same 2x6 sub-fascia, but I'm not clear if the sheathing butts up to the back of...

Truss hurricane tie H1. Install before sheathing?

Hi Guys Just installed trusses and thought I'd circle back around with an update. I can't use the H1 ties. As I suspected, they would cover the nail plates where the top and bottom chord are attached so would be spread too wide. (I bought one to try and it was virtually impossible to get on.)...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

Thanks for info readhead. Good to know. Wis I'd have known in advance and could get that price in Chicago. Someone told me it was either minimum $500 or $1500 for a crane. Also, being a novice, I was kind of learning as I was going, so wasn't too sure how long setting each truss, etc. would...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

there were only two of us. Use frieze blocks of 22 3/8 to space the tails. ridges are a bit off as it was hard to get spacers in. As i sheath, I'll cut the ridge spacers and plumb each truss to top of sheet is same spacing as tail. Shouldn't be too hard (famous last words) Goal this weekend is...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

That was exactly what I wanted, but boom operator said he couldn't lay 'em down. Of course, being a truss (and boom) novice, I wasn't in a position to argue. One half is for car, and other half for wood working.

    Anyone used these with MCN-150?

My only issue with bostitch is that they provide no certifications of any kind with strong-ties or any other strap. I must admit, I'm a little confused, the Simpson pocket install guide says 8d common nails, which suggest i don't need any kind of special nail, as others have indicated.

    Anyone used these with MCN-150?

Hi Guys These are nails are 33-degree N8HDGPT500 and the MCN-150 is 35-degree. Will they work? The Simpson web page (under compatible fasteners: http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors/SCN.asp#connectors) lists the MCN-150 as compatible, but Bostitch say they don't test 3rd party...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

So they came in a single stack with both gable ends together at one end. Couldn't be laid down by crane operator. When we cut the metal straps they became really unstable, so had to brace with 2x4's. Wasted a lot of time. Would have been better to deliver to floor, given the time we wasted...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

The boom is just for delivery. I can't install until Saturday/Sunday, so was just getting them boomed to save having to lift them all up 10 feet, which does beg the question: "what is expected of me during delivery". I assume I'd probably just have to rotate them a bit, so the sides line up with...

Having Trusses Boomed to Top of Walls

Hi All Big day tomorrow: trusses being delivered (24 foot, 4/12). I'm installing on Saturday. I forked out the $150 for boom delivery to top of walls (all sheathed in 1/2-inch CDX). Should I stack them lying down, with the peak on the back wall, or have them suspended upside down? If the...

Just my luck - bad weather

Thanks Guys tightened all sill bolts yesterday. Got about 1200 nails in the sheathing: only about 2,000 to go. put two diagonal braces across each corner and 12 foot 2x4 diagonally across 3 long walls. See attached (it's a panoramic, so front wall is distorted). After to trying to shake the...
