How do you lift a heater?

Just picked up a Mr Heater 80k unit to replace the pellet stove. I'm looking for creative ways to lift it to my 9' ceiling myself. The only lift I have is a motorcycle lift table which gets me about 3'. Any ideas?

    Compressor repair

I have a 32 gallon Husky upright air compressor I bought from Home Depot as a refurb. Connecting the pump exhaust to the tank is a copper tube that originally had a metal ferrul that sealed the exhaust tube at the pump. That ferrul has been replaced with some red caulk type material which...

    Blast cabinet vent

What do you do with the exhaust vent to catch the dust? I've attached my shop vac to it but would rather have a filter or something.

Waay too humid in my shop.

My new (to me) shop is 30' x 40', insulated and rocked. We've been having a lot of rain lately and the humidity and sweating of the slab is too much. Could this be caused by an un-insulated slab? Would running a ceiling fan help or am I going to have to run a dehumidifier to keep things from...

Need to lift a really heavy compressor

My new-to-me house has a large 240 Volt vertical tank compressor in the basement. It is copper piped to the attached garage. i want to move it into the 30' x 40' shop to use it there instead. There is a nice wide concrete staircase from the basement into the garage, and the railing around it...

    Workbench finish

Still looking for a good finish to put on my solid maple bench top. Sine I won't be heating it full time, I don't think polyurethane will hold up well. Wondering how tung oil and paste wax holds up to motorcycle chemicals. Ant other good recommendations?

    Angle grinder recommendation needed.

Looking for a lower cost angle grinder to compliment my new welder. I've never used one but I think I want a paddle switch instead of a locking switch. Any suggestions?

    Another bench top question

I need a 16' benchtop so decided to do it in Maple flooring. I plan on glueing and screwing two layers of 5/8" plywood, the nailing the Maple to that. Should the T&G's of the Maple be glued? Should it be glued to the plywood? Lastly, what finish will be reasonably resistant to gas & such?

Help me with my new house

My new house has lots of lights, and waaay too many switches. For example: the kithen has 7 can lights in soffits, and three switches on three different walls to operate them. The master bathroom has a ceiling light switch, two vanity light switches, and a toilet alcove switch. Are there any...

How to paint a stripe on the wall

Moving into my new house tomorrow with a 30' x 40' white shop. I'm planning on painting a darker gray up to my 40" bench height and lighter gray above that. Was going to use some s4s for the divider, but maybe not. How do you paint a straight accent stripe?

How to build a partition wall

Wednesday I move into my new (to me) house with a 30' x 40' finished shop. I am planning on dividing that up into a 30' x 30' shop, and two 10' x 15' storage rooms. In my years i have done basments, decks, etc., but nothing that taught me how to build a 30' x 10' high STRAIGHT wall. How do...

    School me on vises

I was swearing at my crappy Menards vise when my son suggested I get an old Wilton. After a couple days searching Craigslist and Ebay, maybe a good Wilton is a bit spendy for my amatuer needs. If a Chicago built Wilton is the Cadillac, what is the Buick and Chevy?

    Newbie from MN

Hey guys. I'm moving from Big Lake Mn to Zimmerman (about 3 miles)in 6 weeks. I'll be stepping up from about a 450 sf garage to a 30' x 40' finished shop with pellet stove. My plan is to wall off 10' off one end for a 10' x 15' shed space, and 10' x 15' storage room. The rest will be my...

Looking for suggestions for a new parts washer solvent (or not solvent?). I do light motorcycle repair so don't need the strongest. It needs to be safe for aluminum, and maybe plastics. Suggestions?

    Need a rack of hardware

I've got 5 motorcycles and I live to tinker. Fixing, fabricating, mounting stuff, unmounting stuff, etc. Too many times I make a trip into town for a couple nuts or bolts, and spend more money on gas than parts. I would love to have a rack of drawers full of metric stuff. Does anyone sell a...

    Need control for pneumatic lift.

I have a Handy lift for my cycles, really saves the back. The foot pedal air controller it came with is cheap, does not auto-center itself between up and down so I have to be careful. Where can I find a reasonably priced, self-centering foot control? Maybe a wall mounted lever control?

    Anyone insulate a floor?

Hey guys, newbie here. Just got an accepted offer on a house with a 30'x40' insulated, heated, wide open detached garage. It's primary use will be for motorcycles. I've got a couple months before it is mine but am working hard on planning the finishes, flooring, cabinets, etc. Since I live...
