cordless tools, whats your brand, and what tools do you have.

I've had a dewalt 14.4v cordless drill for 10 years. I don't use it everyday, but it's always done me well. After 10 years, the batteries still work fine.

    removing ballasts from lights

Thanks, Charles. That was a good, informative read. From the article... "This maximizes lamp life and ensures other performance characteristics such as color and light output." I think that might explain why several of his lights were burnt out.

    removing ballasts from lights

I saw some 400w MH fixtures with bulbs for sale, dirt cheap. They're 277v only (no multi-tap). The owner has several of them in use in his barn, and the rest are for sale. He said that he didn't like how they operated when on 240 volts, so he just removed the ballasts and "wired them on 110...

    Pocket hole Jig

The $100 one might include a clamp and an assortment of screws and some other stuff. The R3 comes with a few screws and doesn't include a clamp. I don't know what it is with Lowes but, at least locally, they're either jerks or clueless. I had to find it myself. It was buried in the tools...

    Pocket hole Jig

I bought the General Tools jig from Home Depot because they don't carry Kreg tools. Then I went across the street to Lowes and looked at the Kreg R3. Then I went back to Home Depot and returned the General Tools jig. Never used the General... I was putting in a staircase and didn't want to...

toilet and radiant heat - moisture? Smell?

I have radiant heat in my basement bathroom and the radiant wire is embedded in mortar under the tile. The instructions said keep it 4-6" away from toilets to prevent the toilet from warming up and softening the wax ring. The instructions also said that the heat only radiates about 1-2" from...

Trench dirt - methods to put it all back in?

:+1: I dug a 15' trench and piled the soil back up. It's now 2 rainy weeks later, and it's level.

    plumbing question actually (bad smell)

A similar thing happened to me. The previous owner extended the drain pipe from the kitchen sink to a nearby closet and moved the washing machine there. As the washing machine drained, the water rushed down the pipe and caused the kitchen sink p-trap to gurgle. My guess is that there is no...

    Can you spot the problem?

Using your bottom photo for reference... You can put a 90 degree fitting onto your vent stack, bore horizontally through all five studs to the left of the vent stack, and put another 90 degree fitting to bring you back vertical. Then reinforce the bored-out studs with stud shoes...

    Cold Air Return in Basement

I have 2 registers and a return in my finished basement. On warm, but not hot, days, I can run the furnace fan and that cold basement air cools the upstairs. It's like having the A/C on.

    Hello from Nova Scotia

I took a road trip from MI to Halifax several years ago. Not quite as far as Cape Breton, but still NS. Gorgeous country. Welcome to Garage Journal.

    Service Upgrade Questions

I won't have trouble separating neutrals and grounds in the basement panel. Whoever wired my house left a ton of slack on the wires in the panel. Although the neutral bar is near the top of the panel, every neutral and ground wire for every circuit is run down almost to the bottom of the panel...

    Service Upgrade Questions

This is my thought for wiring my new detached garage, which was just built and has no electrical service yet. Currently, my house has 150A service from an overhead line, feeding a 150A panel in my basement. I want to remove that service, and instead have 200A buried service run to my detached...

    Ceiling Craigslist Score!!

That is a nice score. I put a drop ceiling in my basement a few years ago, and it's about the same list of materials as what you just got. It definitely cost me way more than $50. So, from my perspective, YOU ****!!!
