    Automotive Student Needs Tool Advice

If a tool breaks, buy a new one. Simple as that. I do not even bother with warrentys. If I break a tool , it is my responsibility not the company that makes it. If you use tools they way they are designed to be used, you should not break too many tools. All tools wear out and when they...

The Best Tools For The Job

Snap On is not the only company that makes great tools. Whia, Hazet and other German tools are really good quality. I have not tried Wera screw drivers but lots of people seem to like them. Knipex pliers are the best pliers I have ever used. I buy tools from several different brands not...

    spray paint gun not working...

Check the fluid passages to make sure there is no obstruction. This problem is unusual for a brand new spray gun. Does this gun have a check valve?

    Matco Swival Sockets

I have some Snap On universal sockets but have not used them yet because they are recently purchased and I will test them to see if they bind. I have not worked in really tight spots much before but now I need tools for tight access. In marine mechanics there are so many tight areas.

    Matco Swival Sockets

I have the Snap On 1/2 inch drive swival univeral joint and it works great but it might be too large with the socket attached to get in really tight spaces. I wish the people who design things would not put the mechanic in such a bind where the space is too tight for a 1/2 inch drive tool, but...

Best Combination Wrench Bang for Buck?

Most of the wrenches in the set have good fit but a couple of the wrenches have poor fit. The satin finish is not bad, but I prefer the chrome finish. The chrome finish is just a preference for me.

Best Combination Wrench Bang for Buck?

I have a set of the Kobalt Satin finish combination wrenches which are cheap but some of the wrenches have poor fit and they are too short. I would get chrome wrenches and avoid the Satin finish. The Craftsman wrenches are good if you do not plan to use them every day. I would buy...

    Matco Swival Sockets

Any opinions on the Matco impact swival sockets? The pin is the weakest part so pinless sockets should be stronger but are they really better? How do they fit compared to Snap On sockets. Are they small enough to fit in tight areas?

Where can I buy Felo and Wera tools?

Chad's toolbox is a good place to buy tools IMHO. I ordered some Knipex pliers from them and the service was great. My orders were shipped quickly with no delay at all.

Use a dead blow hammer and pound away until it is loose.

Screwdrivers! (the horse isn't dead yet)

I like the Wiha screw drivers better than Snap On. They feel better in my hand and are very durable. They also have some micro tip drivers that are useful for eletronic work. Wiha also has replaceable face dead blow hammers that are excellent quality. The Wiha dura bits are very tough...

    Tool Photo Pool

The large Snap On impacts are very expensive indeed. I only buy those as needed. You cannot spend all your money on tools, there are other things to pay for in life.

    S/O FLF-80 vs... Matco???

In North America, Snap On tools are generally considered best. In Germany, there are tools companies at least as good or better than Snap On. Generally, the more expensive the tool, the better, but not always. Matco tools should not be more expensive and if they are, buy Snap On.

    Orange Peel

You will almost always have some orange peel unless you are painting a surface that is perfectly flat. I would not worry about it as long as the adhesion is strong and it is fully cured. Sand the primer with 400 grit paper to remove the orange peel. If you have orange peel after the color...

    Torque wrench

Snap On has a digital torque wrench with a gyroscope for those tightening sequences that require turning the bolt a certain angle. So you get a torque angle guage and a torque wrench in one tool. This is a very reliable torque wrench. It is part number #: ATECH2FR100
