Which House & Garage to Buy?

House #2 seems wayy better, and looks more architecturally pleasing to me. Beauty in the eye of the beholder I guess. But I wouldn't buy either one. It's like he said, wait till you find out your new additions needs to be brick veneer with x amount of windows and doors, and x lights above every...

    Angies list

That's like paying to read reviews on amazon. Just use the BBB and neighbors. This way you can actually see how they responded to complaints, and assess your neighbor. You never know what loony is writing those reviews, good or bad.

Removable handrail advice request please . . .

Another idea. Make them like regular stair treads except instead of on the stair have in on the outside edge. Like most stair rails have 4-5 inches of stair left to the outside of them. Don't do that make it flush with the stair case Then you could attach a 2x4 at the bottom, and hinge it. And...

    LVL for garage door headers?

What do you mean stacked? Surely you mean next to each other, and not one on top of the other? In other words your header would not be 11 7.8 X 3 high right? Use some good osb, and some 2x10 or 12X14. You can get that at home depot and probably be out about under $100. Glue and nail. Screw in...

    Insulation Compression

Yes, the net would. Usually the price difference would be larger, but if I was in your situation I would probably pay the extra for the R20. Fiberglass actually uses the air pocket inside to insulate, which is why they say not to compress it.

Gramps Idea for Cooling a Garage

Lol, that's pretty much how the air conditioner was invented. Look it up, it's an interesting read. Pretty much, someone named *** Carrier (carrier equipment) just graduated out of an engineering college and was asked to cool a factory. He came up with the idea of running cold well water through...

First house = First Garage (3 car).

No no no. Lol I meant like the extension cord reel. The retractable one hanging on your ceiling? Those were ridiculously expensive for some good ones last time I looked. It would really come in handy considering I pull out the cord about 10 times a week.

    Wrapping Fascia with Aluminum Coil

Everyone around here seems to use .019 coil for wrapping windows/fascia/doors, etc. I paid around $110 including tax for Mastic Brand .024 and it is A LOT thicker, lol I know what you're thinking. This idiot thinks he can tell 5 thousandths of an inch difference, but I tell you. The way this...

    How Do You Know?

They all break, especially when using an impact driver. I have found the Grip Rite brand from HD and also the deckmate brand to be the least prone to snapping off. Also always go for the composite screws as I have more problems with the zinc or plain steel screws. Also, if you really wanted some...

    Cordless tool Investment

WRONG! Not the m18 series, the big batteries are AWESOME. Yes, but if you get a good lithium 18 volt milwaukee, you'll find yourself using the cordless for almost eveyrthing except demolition. The sawzall kills the batteries fast, and so does the skilsaw, but I can go through almost a full...

    14 or 12 gauge

No, the house main breaker/panel is in the attached garage. Just by the time I run it from the panel to the other end of the house in the attic its ~200 or so feet. I just did 14 from the box all the way to the junction box in the attic. Now thinking if its enough worry to go buy 12 gauge to...

    14 or 12 gauge

Yes, I googled it and I have a pretty high voltage drop. So my question is, then if only getting a bigger gauge to account for voltage drop, do I still keep a 15 amp on a 12 then? Or can I run a 20 amp then even though it is a long run ~200 ft. Also, could I account for voltage drop by running...

    14 or 12 gauge

I'm running exterior accent lights. 8 of them at 50w a piece = 400 watts. Divided by 110 volts = 3.23 amps. Now my upstairs is hooked up to a 15 amp circuit for all the lights. Should I just tap into that, or do I have to run a new wire and put a new breaker in? I have room in my panel, just...

    LED vs Halogen

Sorry, I meant incandescent. Oops, I use them interchangeably. So I would be the same cheap engineer if I bought regular fixtures with an Edison base and used an LED. Highbeam- I agree, they are cheap enough, and I'd have to get a 20 ft ladder out to change them so I am getting LED, just...
