I actually haven't hooked up the Hampton Bay control because I knew it wouldn't be able to run both of them.. but I have the same fan in my garage and use the Hampton Bay control and it doesn't hum. Just out of curiosity, is the humming/buzzing bad for the fan itself, or just annoying for me...

Do those need a hub or anything like that? I have a Lutron Caseta switch in my house, and wanted to install one in my shop as well, but it needs to talk to a bridge/hub, and the one in the house won't reach so I was going to have to buy another bridge for the shop.

I'm no engineer, and maybe your local lumberyard would be the best to speak to, but I'd guess a 2x12 on the inside and outside would be plenty. It isn't supporting any weight other than the door.

I could be wrong, but most stuff now has a thermocouple, meaning if the gas somehow gets turned on but there is no flame to burn it, the orifice closes so the gas doesn't fill up your house and cause an explosion... the fireplace starters have no such safety feature.

About to do the same to mine, and planning on doing a 42" steel wainscot around the bottom.. That way if any of the panels get dinged up too badly, they are super easy to replace. But watching this thread for more ideas!
