    Mystery HF tool

I have a home made version of that to refill my motorcycle cooling system. Its the only way to get the sytem completly refilled as the rad sits lower than the top of the engine.

    Florida motorcyclist killed-lightning

Tires do not provide any insulating quality whatsoever, Lightning just passed through thousands of feet of air, a half inch thick piece of carbon impregnated rubber is no match. The actual protection that a car offers is that the metal body makes a good conductor for the energy to pass through...

How did you decide how tall to make your garage?

Our local bylaws limit a garage to 15' from grade. I wanted more than 8' ceiling height for working in and wanted to use attic trusses for added storage space. That led me to opt for 9' wall and a 5.5/12 roof pitch to max out the attic height and hit the 15' mark (it actually went 2" over, but...

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

Lots of rusty stuff up here in the winter lands. Seriously though, I wouldn't even put an empty cardboard box in there after all that work. I'd love to have an old truck as clean as that. Almost had a 66 Mercury truck once that came into the shop with a bad engine. The owner wasn't going to...

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

We had that film put on my wife's car this spring to protect the new $1500 Cdn windshield. Should have done it before If we'd realized how damn expensive it was. The film was about $400 Cdn to have done.

Protecting "Nice" Cars While Working On Others?

My Mustang lives in my shop with a lot of dust making tools. I ordered a custom Covercraft Duststop cover for it to keep it clean. It's an indoor only cover, which is all I need it for, and the material completely stops dust from getting through the cover. It fits tight enough to keep dust from...

Hmm...this is a puzzle. Plumbing gurus?

I just finished repairing a leak in the drain from our kitchen sink. We were getting some moisture and staining on the basement ceiling for the second time. First time was about eight or nine years ago. A horizontal section of the ABS pipe had split length wise over about two feet of length. I...

All this work and she says "it's only a garage!"

Re: All this work and she say's "it's only a garage!" Man, some of you must have some bad relationship history with all the jaded comments. My wife is pretty indifferent to my garage/shop too. She likes what I make out there as long as its for the house. She likes that her car has a warm place...

Will 18 gauge air nailer work for 3/8 plywood?

Brads don't hold very well in plywood due to the head being so small. I solid woods they work better, but still have minimal holding power. Best bet would be sheathing staples if you want the speed of an air-nailer for installing. Next best would be narrow crown staples.

Minimum width for a 1-car stall with lift?

My 12' x 20' addition to my garage is where I have my BendPak HD9 lift. Inside I have 11.5' x 19'. There isn't space to get past the columns on the outsides, but the lift is wide enough to allow passing by between the lift and my wife's car. There is sufficient room at either end to work on my...

Garages: are they for parking in?

Our vehicles, one truck, two cars and three motorcycles, all park in the garage almost all of the time. It's also a workshop and my truck goes out on the parking pad beside the garage when I'm working out there. Occasionally it will need to stay out over night of for a day or two for bigger...

    bottle carts

Nothing. In the pics the TIG gas bottle was not in place yet, with all four bottles in, there is no room for them to move. There is a lip around the bottom shelf that keeps them in though.

    1965 GMC build

The fabrication work looks good on the firewall, but just thinking ahead to future service and repairs, how is that valve cover going to be to remove? Is that enough clearance?

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

That has me remembering a story from when I was a kid. Our neighbour came to ask my dad what was wrong with his new mower. He had mowed his sloped front yard and had adjusted the wheels to level out the mower deck as he went across the slope. His lawn looked like it had been terraced.

Building tube fenders for a jeep

After many years and several renovation and building projects, my wife has come to simply trust me when I say it will be good and will work. She too has no ability to visualize the outcome from drawings or descriptions. She is smart and talented in ways I am not, but spacial relations are not in...

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

Projects tend to stall out for various reasons and sit with little or no progress. But, once we regain traction and get going, it becomes almost an obsession to keep going on it. My project saw realistically only about five years of actual work and 24 of sitting gather dust. It'll be a good...
