Yost model G toolmakers vise stand

Looks great, the bolt tray is very cool. In the first picture (post #7) I imagined it with a lovely contrasting red on the inside.

    Fake brick wall panels

If you want a look of real brick, you can get veneer brick. It's real brick material but is only about 1/2" thick. It goes on like tile with mortar, you then need to fill and shape the joints. I used this in our wine room to make it look like an old cellar. It is a fair bit of work to do...

    The repurposing thread

Just a note on the lug nut oiler, lug nuts should always be installed on clean dry threads and torqued to correct value. Lubricating the threads can lead to over tightening which can cause failure of the studs and can cause damage to the wheels and possibly cause warping or damage to the brake...

    MP&C Shop Projects

Good to see I'm not the only one who does that. I have managed to find some non-insulated terminals and whenever I do, I stock up. saves a step in pulling off the plastic insulator sleeve. I've used the Weatherpack connectors a lot too. I cannot tolerate messy wiring and really dislike those...

Blowing in cellulose in the attic: Any brands to avoid??

I'm retired from a 30 year career as a firefighter and have seen way too many fires in cellulose insulation to ever consider having it in any building of mine. Despite the fire retardants applied, it will still smolder very well and the smoldering will tunnel through the material until it...

    Show us your welding projects

I built the car with the plan to do a bit of autocross and a track day occasionally. So far its just been street driving and a couple of shows. Hoping the new track north of us will give me an opportunity to get it out for what it was intended. Had hoped to get out for autocross this year, but...

    Show us your welding projects

I've been less than satisfied with the plastic fuel cell I have in my 79 Mustang and decided to upgrade it to an aluminum one with a better mounting setup. I want to drop the tank lower in the trunk, partly to bring the weight lower in the rear and partly to allow for a little usable space in...

Did you insulate your waterline coming into the garage?

My water and sewer lines are between 7 - 9 feet below grade (garage sits higher than the house on the lot) and come up through the floor about 6' inside the garage - no insulation. Been in for twenty winters with no problems.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Its Thanksgiving up here and we needed a larger dining room to practice responsible social distancing for our family dinner. It was good motivation for me to spend much of the week doing a thorough and overdue cleanup.

    A touch of Gulf Livery

Always a fan of Gulf since my dad owned a Gulf service station and repair garage back in the 70s and early 80s. My first job was working there after school pumping gas and cleaning up. I sadly don't have much Gulf memorabilia though from it though, just a few small keepsake items.

I agree the paint looks amazing, but paint only highlights whats underneath. That's the real amazing work.

    The Machine Work Thread

Sounds like wheels built by Woody's out of Colorado, had the same combo on my 800. The 700 has alloy wheels from factory which are less durable off road than the spoked ones.

    The Machine Work Thread

Nice. I assume there is some serious off road plans for that F700GS hence the conversion to spoked wheels. What hubs and rims did you use? I had an F800GS for nine years before moving on to my F850GSA.

Frost free exterior faucet with PEX feed?

I've got several no-freeze faucets on our house and on my garage - all connected directly to PEX piping. Never had a freeze up, and we get some serious cold winter weather here. So long as the stem is long enought to ensure the shut off is well inside the warm zone past the insulation and that...

    Solid Wood Edge Corner Detail

I'd do a **** joint too. Overlap the front over the side pieces as the front will see the most abuse. You could run a couple screws into the joint and cover them with wood plugs for added strength.

    Woodworking project

Looks good, I like the style. My only critique would be that there appears to be no allowance for wood movement with the end caps on the top. Might see some craking with humidity changes over time.

Best way to clean aluminum cylinder heads?

Glass bead blasting works to remove the carbon deposits after a good degreasing. You do need to do a very very thorough cleaning afterward to remove all the abrasive material from passages and bolt holes and such. Also good to avoid any bearing surfaces or to mask them for protection.

    The Machine Work Thread

A little motorcycle project I completed. Took a few days of work since its all manual machining and I'm just an amatuer hobbyist at this. The shift lever on my new BWM F850GSA has an adjustable tip on it and I thought it would be better with a folding tip to reduce the chance of damage from...

    62 Corvette rebuild

Having aslo completed a complete custom restoration, I know it was actually a lot of big checks (or credit card bills). It's nice to get the recognition and appreciation for your hard work and vision.
