    Friday Craftsman 115.6842 Grinder Find

Good Friday all.... Went in late to work this morning so I could stop at an estate sale. Among my snags was this vintage Craftsman 115.6842, 7" monster bench grinder. At first it sounded grumpy like it hadn't been woke in years but after a warm up, now it turns on and just hums. BuddyC...

Hand holding nippers tool maker mark

Season's Greetings all, I picked up a pair of rusty pliers last week. After cleaning up, they revealed a mark that shows a hand holding what looks like a pair of nippers (handle up, nipper end down). It doesn't photograph well but I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a mark like this. I...

    Samson 5268 Vise

Thanks for the replies. My wife does not always know what to call what she finds but she knows when to call if I have to work my real job. BC

    Samson 5268 Vise

Well I don't see that. Both jaws are marked on the side opposite the swivel nut with "58". The bottom of the base is "72C". From what I've found I don't think date marks but maybe something else that might confirm the maker?

    Samson 5268 Vise

My wife called me the other day from a sale and asked if I wanted her to get this Vise. Yea, I liked it. I cleaned off decades of grease and really liked the results. It's in awesome condition and closes cleanly. So finding information about the Samsons is not that easy to come by, from what...

What do you do with your old wrenches and sockets.

When I end up with a bunch of wrenches, I couldn't resist but also couldn't sell individually, I lay them out in a group and sell them pretty quick on eBay.

Evening..... I got this Rock Island Lines Cross Peen Hammer today. Curious if anyone knows if it was for the rail road or if they sold tools with the name? It's a nice, heavy hammer thanks! IMG_5181 by William Clark, on Flickr

    CRAFTSMAN spelled CRAFTZMAN???

Sorry, misunderstood. I was just doing a quick scan to see if there was anything close between replies. I was on the Craftsman history article. http://alloy-artifacts.org/craftsman-early-tools-p2.html There were a few wrenches that had pointy S's but where mine are made of 3 segments the...

    CRAFTSMAN spelled CRAFTZMAN???

Please see the OP, that is an example of a Z. It can be hard to catch. I had to count the augers 3 times just because I kept getting confused

    CRAFTSMAN spelled CRAFTZMAN???

Looks like about 7 Z's and 6 S's . I've seen other sets for sale/sold but no one else has commented on the issue, or didn't notice. Looking through AAs archive there is a lot of variation in the letters on tools from the Vanadium era. I saw a couple of Z's just as jagged but not an exact...
