    "Maximum number of edits"

I guess another new "thing" is the "Maximum number of edits in 24 hours". I just had it happen to me. It's no big deal, but I type fast and sloppy and frequently notice mistakes, then go back and edit them. Just part of my overly ridiculous attmepts at perfection. Oh, well, I guess everyone...

Vintage Shopmate belt snader belt replacement

OK, guys. I think I'm an official idiot. My Aunt is selling her house and she's been giving some of my Uncle's tools. Yesterday I got a nice Craftsman 1/3 HP block grinder and a Shopmate belt sander. I've looked at the sander and manage to figure out how to install the belt, but I'm pretty sure...

Where to find replacement vintage shelf clips?

I a have a vintage Utility Metal Products Store Master cabinet. I went to clean it out the other day and realized there was a second shelf that was hidden on the floor of the cabinet. I'd love to use it, but the clips are missing. I'm normally pretty good at finding this type of thing, but they...

Best tap and die set(s) for general garage use

I've been thinking of getting a tap and die set for the garage. I don't need anything super high end, just for the garage. I'm not sure if I should get separate SAE and Metric sets, or if a combination set will be comprehensive enough. A combo set would be easier for storage. I looked at Irwin...

    Best shop vac filter cartridge

Went to use my old Shop Vac QSP 6 gallon vac today and a cloud of dust came out of it. Apparently Mrs. LS6 used it as a wet vac and didn't swap the cartridge out for the foam filter, so the cartridge rotted out. I'm pretty sure it uses the Shop Vac brand "U" filter. Looking it up on the internet...

GJ very slow, freezing and not loading

Is it just me, or has GJ been very slow lately? It's been very slow to load, it freezes, Nothing happens when I hit "submit reply", I get "site not responding" messages in the address window. It does this on every internet browser I've tried. Other websites I deal with are fine. Tommy

    Fixture layout advice

I have five T12 fluorescent fixtures in the garage, three 8' and two 4'. Yesterday I started replacing them with ten 4' LED shop fixtures. The current layout the of old fluorescent fixtures is a little unorthodox. It's basically a "box". There were two 4' fixtures, parallel to the roll up door...

How did this thing run for the last 4 years?

Went to my BIL/SIL's house yesterday to look at their A/C. BIL tells me the symptoms are intermittant. On some really hot days, when he gets home there is very little airflow and the house is warm. If he shuts it down for a while it seems to recover. Sounds like a freezing coil to me. I go...

    Solid bottom in window well??

I had a little water issue in my basement last Sunday when we had 4+" of rain in about 5 hours. I found a wet spot on the carpet and further investigation showed the soft wall panel was wet. I removed the panel and found water was seeping out from under the window frame. I looked out the window...

Where to get vintage fan blade straightened/balanced

Anyone know where to get a vintage Emerson Electric oscillating fan blade straightened/balanced? Mine's been a little wobbly since I got it , but I noticed it might be getting worse and I don't want to wipe out the bearings. I have tried sending emails and posts on a few of the vintage fan...

Coxreels EZ-PC13-5012-B doesn't rewind as nicely as I'd like

I have a Coxreels 50', 20A (EZ-PC13-5012-B) electrical reel I was given from my old boss' wife after he passed away. It's great to have just inside the garage door for working in the driveway, but it doesn't rewind as well as I'd like. It barely pulls strongly enough to rewind the weight of the...

    Freeibies!

I won a business card raffle at one of our supply houses yesterday. I got a Milwaukee contractor bag loaded with goodies! A Milwaukee hat and Tee shirt, a jab saw, 11 in 1 screwdriver, marking pens, 25' tape measure, a small storage bag, 5 packs of metal and wood Sawzall blades, a Shockwave 6"...

Show us your vintage lawn sprinklers!

My 76 year old restored National Walking Sprinkler doing it's thing: Colors are not "correct". The guy I got it from for $5.00 "restored" it. The green is correct, the wheels should be silver, it leaked EVERYWHERE and the wands were split. I made new wands, gaskets and replaced the worm gear...

    Score!

My recently deceased boss' wife came to work Friday to collect his things. I showed her a storage closet full of some things he brought in from home and she said she really didn't know what to do with some of it. One thing she didn't want was a 50' Coxreels 20A quad outlet box EZ-Coil, so she...

I-R body saw same as Harbor Freight/ Central Pneumatic?

I have an $18.99 ($23.95 on ebay, LOL) Harbor Freight 91753 pneumatic body saw that is almost visually identical to a $99.99 Ingersoll-Rand IR429 I recently saw at Tractor Supply. The only visual difference is the metal guard on blade end. They both have similar specs, except the IR specs claim...
