Does soldering Lead ever go bad?

I use acid core or solid wire solder with flux to tin the ends of bike brake and shifter cables- keeps them from frizzing.

    Help identify craftsman top chest

you can find a lock for that at Home Depot for $5. It will be similar to the lock on your bottom box, with maybe a different fitting on the back of the lock. They have a few styles to choose from.

    Vise advice needed...

Here's an update. I gave up on finding an acme threaded nut- nothing local, and online they were from $8 to $25 EACH! Not including shipping! I found a small handle at Habitat for 25 cents- it has a 3/8x 24 thread. There was enough meat on the acme bolt to rethread it to match. It works...

Heres a pic next to a 3/8-16 bolt. The threads appear to be straight cut like on the vise screw, at 8 tpi. Doesn't look like wear.

    Vise advice needed...

Thanks guys. I could not get the center screw out, but between trying, and all the PBB and WD, the base is now spinning as designed. Now, I can't stop it! The vise came with the fitting, but no nut. It has an unusual thread that does not fit a standard nut. Any idea where to find a nut to fit...

    Vise advice needed...

I picked up an old Athol vise, which works great, except the base does not rotate at all- it is rusted to the vise. It appears that the center screw is also rusted in place. What are the odds of getting this base apart, in one piece, with either vinegar or PB blaster? Thats all I have...

Help with identifying this Craftsman Box

after looking a little closer, yours might be a slightly different version. Replacement drawers and slides for these old boxes are too expensive to make that worth the effort. You just missed a 9 drawer version of these boxes, that looked to be in primo condition, listed on cl in San Diego...

    It's vice week here

I'd go with the Columbian, IF it was a 4-1/2" or bigger jaw. That 3-1/2" size goes for well under $50 around here. So, I would pick none of them.

Can you identify this craftsman box?

not really sure what you're asking here. I've had the old friction slide version, as well as a ball bearing version. They were called Craftsman Pro boxes, 36" wide and 19" deep. I bought the bb version about 5 years ago, used, and sold it a few years later...should have kept it. It is a solid...
