    Bendpak 9sw two-car four-post clearance

Currently the tracks are ~8', but I have 12' ceilings and can have them moved up and the door resprung. And really, the door comes 7' into the garage when raised, so it's not like 54" could possibly be the "universal clearance for section door retraction".

    Bendpak 9sw two-car four-post clearance

Thanks guys - a couple feet I get, but ... 54" > 2' no matter how I do the math. Maybe it's just for rear overhang if I ever get that 59 Eldorado?

    Bendpak 9sw two-car four-post clearance

Hi all - many years ago, built what I (foolishly) assumed would be the be-all, end-all garage of my dreams. Three car with an angle to the house, approx 1000sf. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110219 Well, you know how that goes, never enough space. I'd like to put a...

planning my layout . . . considering a lift as well if I can fit

It could work if you put one post right against the wall. My lift is about 9' between the posts, and about 1.5' footprint, so that's 12' wide. Would put one post basically in the middle, and leave a narrow walk way on the other side. Mark it off with paint/string/whatever and see what it...

What is a good depth for a workbench?

Right on, 38'; I went with 32" for exactly that reason. Agreed that it's deep enough to stay cluttered a lot of the time, but it's nice to have the extra space for a light, battery charger, coffee can full of bolts, whatever. Big deal is the overhang, I forgot that, and it makes for ***** of a...

Lights over my door/ Need options

barely visible here: it's the absolute leftmost fixture in the picture, in front of the Buick's ample snout. I put some brackets to the door tracks and ran a steel cable between them, then hung the light from the cable. Voila, light at the door whether it's open or closed. I have 12'...

    Another quick wiring question

Haha Pat, I can't be bothered to pay my buddy $50/hr... Sorta blew the budget building the shop, repainting, repaving, remodeling upstairs bath! Been an expensive year. Charles - that's what's got me going to two breakers. 15 fixtures at .74a doesn't leave much (any) room to add on. If I go...

    Another quick wiring question

I take it MWBC is a 14/3. What if I use two 14/2s, and have separate neutrals?

    Another quick wiring question

Then to revisit the original question, and bearing in mind that I'm a chicken-sh!t when it comes to electricity (ie tend to power the subpanel down at the main panel before doing anything), what would the collective suggest? Tandem on same phase? With/without tie? Dual or double on opposite...

    Another quick wiring question

The more the merrier, let's hear what you have to say! Worst case scenario it's another conflicting opinion. I'm not overly concerned with what the inspectors have to say, I hear from my general that we have a pussycat, he's more interested in inspecting the car collection. Though I plan on...

    Another quick wiring question

Yep, 14/2 x2 it is, going to use a tandem breaker... might see if I can exchange one of the extra 20 tandems the electrician had my buy a couple years ago.

    Another quick wiring question

What I find intriguing about this, as a layman, is how much verbiage there is in the code... seemingly only to obscure understanding. All the more reason to run two 14/2's. Unless there's a prohibition to running two feeds to a plastic four-gang box, on Saturdays, in California.

Will this wire work for my shop build?

Yikes, after wrangling with four strands of 12ga in 40F weather, I can't imagine trying to do much with 10ga.

    Another quick wiring question

Haha, you'd be surprised how my house is wired. 1957 construction, 1971 upstairs addition, 1980's kitchen remodel (wherein they stole the 220V to the garage for the candyass electric range). All on lovely Zinsco breakers. That's why I said "F-it" and had 100A run to the garage. At least...

    Another quick wiring question

Does that mean, in layman's terms, that: you can't use a double pole for two 120's you can's use two singles for 240 ?

    Another quick wiring question

Thanks again for all the great help guys. Lots of good info in here. After the discussion, I think I'll just to two 14/2's on a tandem 15a. It's not that long of a run to the panel, and I have lots of wire left over. I guess my electrician is used to other people buying the wire, I have...

    Another quick wiring question

(doh) I knew that about the 14/3 on the two singles, don't know what I was thinking. Sounds like tandem (yes, box is okay for that) is the way to go. Thanks again for the help, everyone!!

    Another quick wiring question

Gotcha. I can either use a tandem with two 14/2 runs (saving space in the panel at the cost of running an additional neutral) or a double (or two singles) with a 14/3 run.

    Another quick wiring question

Hey, I'm all ears! http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202353320/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 Tandem 15a, I don't see a lock between the poles. That said, I'm not overly concerned about having separate trips, just a way to have some room to grow if I need...
