That's pretty nice. If you were to use it on your welding table, as shown in your build pic, how much damage would the plasma cutter do to the table top? I've never used a plasma cutter, but I will be using one around the end of April (hopefully).

I was wondering if you could use a small 3 phase motor and VFD? I see on surplus center you can buy a single phase input/3 phase output VFD and a 3/4HP motor for a little less than the parts for a DC motor and speed control. Anyone know if there would be any downsides to this?

It states in the description that the holes are 0.25" and you need to drill them to accomodate your torch, so I was expecting to probably have to enlarge them. Thanks for the feedback.

I priced a 2' x 4' x 1/2", with four slots cut in the top. About $220 at my local fab shop, who usually seem very reasonable.
