That's a goodly chunk of vise, I like. There's one on UK eBay but he has it listed as a record and it's more money than I'd like to pay, maybe one day I'll get my chance.

If you can cut a slot into the drive rivet with a dremel cutting disc it should hopefully come out with a slotted screwdriver.

I've a similar one, it's the one that sat in Dad's garage through my youth. I'm not sure how he came by it but it's branded USSR and I'm in the UK. I've seen the same on UK ebay a couple of times I like the very stout handle.

I'm not sure it's always down to abuse. I bought a Prentiss recently, it has a cracked slide but virtually no other marks on the slide. I have another, an old coachmakers which has had a bit of "use" on the slide but no crack. I pray it won't get one as it's my favourite.
