    The VISES of Garage Journal

I've one of those with a quick release swivel base, good solid lump. Pre WW2 perhaps?

    What's this tool for?

I've used the same style for cutting plastic trims used in fitting UPVC windows and doors.

    Sharpening stones

Tried pretty much all of the various stones and without a doubt the sharpest edge comes off a japanese water stone. Method counts for a LOT. It's a simple concept though, two FLAT polished surfaces meeting at a point.

An interesting 36 you say! I'm not clued up on the finer details of Records but pleased to hear it's got something about it. The life it had led is testament to the strength and quality, never had a vice so beaten on. Speaking of fine details on Records, any idea on the 114 in my picture that is...

Good eye Fretters, they are off a flypress. It was a fine machine but hogged space, I bought it very cheap and fixed it up nice and sold for good money but the stand stayed with me. Sacrilege I know but I needed a nice mobile work table. I've a Herbert swiveling pipe vise somewhere, it'll...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The Record 46 turned up today, a fair chunk no doubt. A set of jaws and I might call it done, the patina is nice and once gone can't be had back. For those worried about the little Prentiss, I sat the 46 on it's bench which shows the 36 beater next to it. There's a picture of it's oval handle...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Let's see if I can post a picture :headscrat Some of my better vises and mostly bought recently, kinda sitting in the way but I don't mind stepping around them too much :D A Record 114p, a bitter sweet purchase as I felt the pain of the son selling Dad's vice but paid fair money for something...

CwazyWabbit, I see odd ones like you say but to have a free run at the vast selection in the US would be great, fatal maybe but great while it lasted! I was pleased to grab a Reed 206r a month ago but that kind of stuff isn't common enough for my liking. The Prentiss vice could well be called...

I did restore it. Nothing too intense, just a strip down, clean and repaint. I like to keep as much originality as is practical. I'd like another sheet metal vice but nothings turned up yet in blighty, these US fella's have wonderful variety. Some kind of bulk palleted exchange perhaps? We'll...

That's what it's intended us is, live outside vise. All the others live inside :) I'll have to take some pictures, to date I've resisted, I'm not really that bothered about vises

    Help with table saw

Using a piece of wood about 3 ft long, feed into the saw about half way against the fence allowing (no forcing against fence) it to take it's path. Stop the saw mid cut with wood insitu and then adjust the fence (if it's possible) to be the same angle as the wood is sitting. Tighten up and see...
