    vintage power hammer?

It's a power hammer. I'm just not sure if someone retrofit it to be one or it has always been. Because I've searched extensively over the past couple of months to identify the make, but I can't even find a picture of anything that looks similar.

    vintage power hammer?

Anyone have any ideas if this started life as something other than a power hammer?

Accidentally posted this in general tool discussion, so I apologize for the duplicate post. Anyone ever seen one or have any info that they could share?

    vintage power hammer?

I just got this today. Am I off by calling it a power hammer (or planishing hammer)? As my luck would have it, I can't find a picture or any info on line about. Anybody have any info on that they can share? Thanks

    work benches... from scratch

I don't think that I'll do a whole lot of hammering on this table. I'd hate to miss and chip a corner off, or accidentally hit the table and mar it up. I have much heavier table made of I-beams for that.

    work benches... from scratch

Here's a nice little layout/welding table I recently made. The legs are 4" round with a1/4" wall, the shelf is 1/8" with under bracing, and the top is from an old griddle from a restaurant, which is 3/4" thick. The griddle is cast iron and true flat, so it works perfectly for squaring things up...

Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

Thanks! I'm really new to the forum, but I have browsed it many times in past, so I'm surprised that I haven't seen another one of these pedestals used for a grinder. If there are others that I missed, it would be awesome to know where I could find a picture. It'd be good to see other designs on...

I made a good bit of progress on the pedestal for my mystery grinder. The pedestal is from a commercial 1959 Hobart dough mixer that I saved from being scrapped (and I got for free!!). With the base of the grinder being so much bigger than the top of the pedestal, I wanted to make an adapter...

Can anyone positively identify this grinder/buffer? I have scoured the Internet since I got it a year ago and can not find a single picture of one identical to it. The base looks very similar to an Elliott Selecta, but that's where any closeness ends. It's a 110v grinder. I've been pulling my...

Here's an abco (Adams Brothers Co) I picked up at an auction about a month ago. It runs smooth, just had to clean it up a little bit. I made the base out of 1/2" plate, two different size hydraulic cylinder rams, and a few old hitch balls. I'm using it for tungsten only so I didn't see the need...

    My new semi-gantry overhead crane

Here's a better shot of the car on the track. There's guide bearings on each side of the center flange. It tracks perfectly. I can't say the same for the A-frame. I've had about 3000 pounds on this and it pushed effortlessly. Just had to bump the A-frame back in line a couple of time over the...

    My new semi-gantry overhead crane

Good question! I have many hydraulic gear box/motors that rotate the booms on bucket trucks. One idea was to put a gear motor on top at each side of the I beam. I would then take a 6" (ish) pipe and weld three flanges on (ends and middle) creating two spools on each pipe. I would mount a pillow...

Any ideas on what this cast iron base is off of?

It's so short though, and the top is platform isn't very big so it would be a very small anvil that would fit it. You'd also probably have to be sitting down if you did have a small anvil on it. Is it common for a blacksmith to be sitting down while hammering?

    My new semi-gantry overhead crane

I seen a shop with several factory built semi-gantry cranes and new I had to make one. I don't have it under power yet, but should soon. The track on the wall is 30' and I have 10' of clearance. All material was left over from a job, so with hardware and wheels I'm about 70.00 invested other...

Any ideas on what this cast iron base is off of?

I bought this at an auction a few years ago and have searched extensively try to even find a picture online of one, with no luck. Anyone have ideas as to what it could be from or even what decade it might date from? It's about 28" tall and does have a casting number on it.
