WTF? I've never seen THIS before....

Milling through the bin of sockets, as is my custom during my infrequent visits to the local pawn shop, I happen across this... I'm thinking this little guy wasn't manufactured correctly, but I thought I'd let y'all chime in.

Snap On "1985 Sweepstakes" (with photos)

Gents - I came across this little treasure while helping my neighbor move some boxes in her garage. Her husband passed away in 2002 and she knows nothing about these wrenches. She was insistent that I take them, for helping her with her spring cleaning. I told her I couldn't possibly, as...

    International Harvester sockets (with photos)

I appreciate the feedback, gents. This afternoon I asked around some guys whose opinion I respect and trust. Davethorick, you hit the nail on the head....complete socket sets and various other IH items are in high demand to the sliver of Americana that appreciates quality products. Ownership...

    International Harvester sockets (with photos)

Every now and then, I stop in to the local pawn shop to see if there are any tools I might want to buy. Nine out of ten times I walk out without making a purchase. Today I came across the following three International Harvester sockets. Now, I am no expert in socket quality. But I do know...

    Cornwell socket set questions....

Fellas - I am a diehard Mac socket guy. That being said, I stumbled upon the following Cornwell socket set at a garage sale this morning. I could not pass it up. I am hoping y'all can help me with a few questions with respect to Cornwell: For the life of me, I cannot get any information...

Questions about Cornwell impact socket set....

Gents - I recently purchased the following socket set at an estate sale a few blocks from my home. I am a die-hard SK socket guy, but I am quite aware of the Cornwell reputation, and the quality they put into their tools, sockets especially. I walked away $4 dollars poorer, but today just...

    Socket rail alternative....

I am considering cutting the excess metal away, actually. It would make the tool chest much "cleaner". the 1/2 clips not working was a huge disappointment. And it is probably a dealbreaker for a lot of folks. I never considered hunting for larger rails that might accommodate the 1/2...

    Socket rail alternative (pt. 2)

Here are photos 8-12: 8. The fitting is so snug that they do NOT fall out of the clips. 9. Deep well sockets (3/8 in this photo) do not fall out. 10. If you have those rare earth super-strong magnets, the rail can stick to them no problem 11. Rail on the magnets. 12. The rail cut down...

    Socket rail alternative....

Fellow "journalists": I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break. Like most within the tool-loving fraternity, I have been tormented with my socket organization strategy. After some trial & error, I stumbled upon (literally) a solution that I had to share with you. I have a...

Does anyone recognize this Challenger socket?

Gents - I stumbled across this Proto (Challenger) socket while I was browsing through a flea market earlier today. This little socket cost me a grand total of fifty cents...a deal I just couldn't refuse even though I have little or no use for a socket this big. This Challenger is a 12 pt...

    Mystery impact swivel....

The swivel moves smoothly and bites onto my ratchet as well as any swivel I've ever used. From its quality (seems quite high) and its engineering, I would guess it was manufactured domestically. But, judging from the lack of intel about the maker (Darwin?) I would bet my life it was a Chinese...

Gents, After a relatively comprehensive search on the Internet, I was able to come up with no information/history with respect to the swivel you see in the photos below. Can you shed some light on this mystery impact swivel? Thanks,

    Tarnished Proto and/or SK sockets?

Gents, Every few months I clean the dirt & grease out of my sockets. I use standard paint thinner as a solvent to loosen the crud in the sockets themselves. Has anyone else observed a yellowish tint/tarnish on your Proto or SK sockets? In the picture below, the bottom socket is an SK 3/8...

Do you recognize this swivel socket?

Gents - I am a Garage Journal virgin. This is my first posting. I'm happy to be a part of the group. As a middle-of-the-road DIYer, I have already picked up some valuable knowledge from y'all. As a fairly ignorant virgin might say....thank you for teaching me a thing or two already! I...
