    Jeepskate's Joint

This is the third time around with nonsense...first the zoning, then the steel building/concrete debacle, now this. I'm on simmer, but my wife is ready to take this guy's head off Yeah, it's fast becoming a horror story. Very private lot...all that you see from the street is the driveway...

    Jeepskate's Joint

The power company engineer came over at lunch time. He said it's the worst OHSA violation he's ever seen and that it's lucky that no one was killed. Power company requires a 10' easement with the line at the center and OHSA requires 12' clearance for *everything* including the workers, tools...

    Jeepskate's Joint

Mixed bag for the rest of the past week: I had to make a pickup with the company straight truck on Friday morning, so figured that'd make pickiing up the slab insulation easier. Stopped by Menards on Thursday night for a few items and swung by the customer service counter to make sure that I...

Thanks. I can only take credit for some of the design work. My buddy Anders did all of the bending, fit-up & welding and made a few field changes to the design.

    Jeepskate's Joint

No trusses today. They finished the girts and installed the headers for the trusses and for the 9' door, then concentrated on the fill since the aim is to have the base ready by the end of tomorrow. Menards was almost out of the pink board that I bought, fortunately the store near where I have...

    Jeepskate's Joint

Always helps if you can find a loophole. I was tempted to turn it into an attached garage off of the existing garage and use the old garage space as shop space, but the concrete & brick work probably would've been a budget buster. Yes, I'm the same Jeepskate from POR among other forums. Couple...

    Jeepskate's Joint

Yeah, I was able to handle all but the very last large snow with my tractors. There was ice right before that one, so I couldn't get enough traction and had to have a plow truck come out (and he promptly ran off the edge of the driveway and got stuck so I had to go pull him out). I was...

    Jeepskate's Joint

Yeah, I just caught that. I moved the building about 30' up from the spot in the aerial to reduce the amount of fill and get further away from the hedgerow. There's actually underground drainage back there that runs out into a drainage creek that starts right at the edge of the woods so...

    Jeepskate's Joint

Thanks. I wasn't real happy about being so far away either. I'll have to put a shed up by the house to keep one of the lawn tractors in and hopefully I can beam a wireless signal from the house to get internet out there or I'm going to have to bury some CAT5.

    Jeepskate's Joint

Finally underway here in Northcentral/Northeast Ohio. We moved here about a year ago from the Chicago area just before the housing market went to hell and bought a nice house on a little over 5 acres of land. The problem? All that it had was a small 2-car attached garage and not even a shed. My...

roof insulation on pole barn with no eves??

I'm having my pole barn built right now (just broke ground this morning) and opted for a metal roof. My builder spec'd some fanfold 'insulation' for under the roof panels to avoid moisture problems when heating. I'll check to see if there's any labelling on the bundles when I get home this evening.

Hot water heaters for radiant heating

Radiant is definitely a set it before you need it and leave it there type of heat. If you need quick recovery, you should supplement with another type of heat. The 'recovery' seems to be the key...length of loops, number of loops, number of zones, undesired heat loss out of the slab, size of...

What wire for 100A feeder? Upgrade main to 200A?

On a normal residential rural lot it would be 75' front, 50' rear, 25' sides...that alone blew me out of the water, then I picked another spot near where I ended up, called the inspector to ask if my 800'+ 'pole' covered me for the 75' since I'd be about 30' away from the front of the 'flag'...

Hot water heaters for radiant heating

Back to the drawing board. Found out that I have special zoning as residential rual on a 'flag' lot which requires me to be 75 feet from *all* lot lines, so I'm moving the building down to a clearing in front of and to the side of the house, spinning it, and moving the 16x12 door from the...

What wire for 100A feeder? Upgrade main to 200A?

Well, thanks to zoning, my plans have changed. I found out that because I'm zoned residential rural and have a 'flag' lot (shape of the lot...main lot is the flag, portion with the driveway is the pole) I have a 75' min. setback from *all* of my property lines. So, ended up down in the clearing...

Cat5 Roughed in How do I finish it?

Not something I personally do since I'm kinda **** about having backups/redundancy and like the idea of keeping my signals separate from each other, but as has already been said, you can split off at each end of the CAT5e and run your phone and network down the same cable. In order to keep the...

    Prices of PEX??

I went Ebay as well and saved money by buying two 1000' coils instead of five 300' coils...I can sell the leftover and make some money back. I paid about $850 for the PEX, deluxe manifolds, and pressurization kit delivered.

Hot water heaters for radiant heating

Thanks Brian. I was just in Menards on Saturday and happened to stroll past the insulation area and spotted the pink board and made a quick detour. They have the hi-density stuff intended for radiant on sale for $21.94/sheet for 4'x8'x2" for another couple of weeks...just a tad cheaper than...

Hot water heaters for radiant heating

Mine should work out such that I only need to cut a couple of sheets for insulating the sides of the slab. At 32x40 the 4x8 sheets fall right into place. Home Depot has the 2" pink, I didn't see the 2" blue listed at Lowe's...I may pop in there after work this evening for a look see and swing by...
