    What is your Pet Peeve?

....people that come into my business and said "Hey, you know what I need?".....I always wanted to say, "As a matter of fact I do; I'm a friggin mind reader"..... Better yet, those that would show me a part and say, "You don't have one of these, do you?" Most everybody does this. What is it in...

    What is your Pet Peeve?

People who start every sentence with the word 'so' as if it's a continuation of a previous thought when it's not. People who say "I could care less," when they mean "I couldn't care less." Cashiers at Lowe's that read the 'thank you for your service' message on the screen to you in a tone of...

    Maxjax Installs: Post Here

I don't know what the cure to your problem is, but I do know it's not the length of the hoses. When the cylinders are properly bled, both hoses are filled with oil. When you operate the lift all that happens is that the fluid gets pushed equally into the cylinders. I ran one hose across the...

Per your title, you only need one? Which foot, left or right?

    Shop towels sustainability

I used to buy shop rags in bulk from Georgia Towel online. This was way more cost-effective than having a weekly service exchange them (plus the stop-off charge.)

Over 10K for a patio door installed

I installed a new 6' slider a couple of weeks ago. This was my 2nd install (in two different houses.) I bought a United Distinct slider w/ internal blinds (from Lowe's) for 1250.00 out the door. This is not the 800.00 door they have on display, this one's very good quality and it'll outlive me...

    O'Keeffe's Working Hands

I've been using Stokoderm forever. It forms a barrier between the hands and any solvent that I work with (mainly mineral spirits), plus it makes hand washing a lot easier. I tried O'Keefes and it was nowhere as good for me.

    Auto Batteries

This can easily be installed inside the alternator. Put the large ring terminal under the nut that connects the output stud to the rectifier (so it will have a constant 12v). Snip the end of the wire with the pin connection and put a #10 ring terminal on said wire. Now run the wire...

    Auto Batteries

The regulators used to convert a Delco alternator to one wire should be installed with a resistor (made for the purpose) between the output stud and the regulator itself. This dramatically lowers the turn-on speed. I never had a problem doing it this way even on the slowest turning engines...

    Auto Batteries

I sold Interstate batteries for over 30 years. When a customer would come in with an alleged defective one I would only give him/her a new one after charging and load testing the one they brought in. I can count on one hand (maybe two) the times the battery was actually defective. More often...

Your longest possession in tools thread

I've got a Schauer 6" bench grinder that my father bought new in 1959. I used it commercially for 43 years and it still works fine. Probably put 10 switches in it over the course of time.

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Here's a 3039 that I've had for years. It was thinned out on the 3/4" side to hold the thin solenoid nut behind the cables on big truck starters (back in the '70s) while removing the outer nut. I was using it to remove an 02 sensor and I took a good look at to see who made it and what I could...

What is your favorite 5 in 1 screw driver?

For screws that turn easily I use a long shanked screwdrivers (11") and just spin the screws in using my fingers on the shank.

    Best solder for automotive wiring?

40 years in the starter alternator business using nothing but 60/40. On vehicle wiring I used nothing but uninsulated **** splices and quality shrink tubing to join wires and never had a problem. Terminal ends should be crimped, however.

    I need a micro torch

MAPP gas is not banned; it's just longer being made. Look carefully at the label on a bottle of today's Mapp gas and you'll see it's now called "MAP Pro." It's not the same stuff; the ingredients are different. For what I use it for I see no difference between the two.
