I'd Hightly suggest against a flip top. I have one for my dewalt planer and ridgid osc spindle/belt sander and HATE it. I'd much rather have a solution where both tools are accessible without the BS of pulliing out the cart, flipping (without pinching fingers) just to get to the other tool.

You're on the right track, a sharp gouge is key. I use thin CA glue to help stabilize the bark once i get close to the final shape.

sprayed a few pieces in my shop in a turquoiseish paint. It was actually the colour for the nitrogen piping where i used to work. The paint is a sherwin williams industrial urethane modified enamed and I sprayed it with a cheap king gravity gun

Glad to see the shop is coming along njcely! I got myself a cheapie MIG machine a while ago but it doesn’t see much use. I used and got used to stick at my old job and my new job uses only TIG, which i’d Like to learn next.
