Yes. Corey was great to work with. I don't have a single complaint and would go with him if I ever build another. He does quality work, is dependable, reasonable, and an excellent communicator. Eric

Butcher Block top install for workbench..

You might try just screwing down the middle of the top. If you sink screws towards the outside on both sides and then the wood contracts is can cause delamination.

    Garage tunes

My shop tunes are a craigslist affair with nearly everything picked up on the cheap. Several hundred watts of power from two receivers pushing four speakers (Yamaha and Klipsch Heresy speakers) and two powered subs. "Flying" the speakers keeps them out of my way and I like the way the sound...

    Workshop For Sale

A friend is selling this workshop in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. He used it for his hobby, restoring cars. It is just down the street from my shop. The building is 60' by 40' with 16' roll-up doors and a full bath on a 1/2 acre lot on a main road. Asking 89k. PM me if interested. Eric...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Finished a table I'm donating to HS baseball fundraiser. The base is off an old Delta bandsaw that I stripped and chemically blackened and clear coated. The tops are cherry with walnut. One of the first projects out of my new workshop that isn't staying in the workshop.

Stripping lathe paint. What's in urban arsenal?

A hot lye dip is the most effective paint removal method I've ever seen. No area is left untouched. But it does absolutely nothing for rust. Like you mentioned lye is nothing to be haphazard with. Eye protection, a broad area clear of everything around the pot, a very wide cooker base and...

Stripping lathe paint. What's in urban arsenal?

Lathe looks great. Just for others benefit when I restore old machines I strip paint with a boiling pot of lye. I use a crawfish cooker and large stainless steel stock pot filled with a water and lye solution. Parts are dipped with bailing wire wrapped around them and hung over the pot's edge...

    Frank Howarth

YouTube has a growing number of DIY, woodworking, and maker channels. To me there are two that set the bar and those are Jimmy Diresta and Frank Howarth. Frank's stop motion presentations are extremely entertaining and his camera work is amazing. Both of those guys are wonderfully creative...

    Vertical pine ship lap installation.

Nails should be fine. If you are going to hang heavy items screws would be my preference.

    Vertical pine ship lap installation.

I would screw the furring strips through the zip wall sheets and into the studs making sure the screws sink in the studs at least an inch. I'd use ring shank nails or screws to attach the pine to 1x2 furring strips. My shop has bookshelf girts on three walls so I didn't have to use furring...

    Yard sprays

For Crabgrass find a product with Quinclorac and use surfactant. I used to think MSMA was the best stuff ever but it got hard to find so I switched to Quinclorac. MSMA never worked as good for me as Quinclorac.

    Powermatic 1150

Here are a couple pictures. Look for sloppiness in the fit between the two halves of the pulley. Usually created by worn bronze bushings, worn pins, or worn keyways.

    Powermatic 1150

Powermatic uses either one or two square head pins that ride in a machined slot. The relatively small pins wear the slot resulting in the clattering you mentioned. Worn bronze bushings are another problem source.

    Powermatic 1150

The variable speed pulleys might be worn. Inspect the bronze bushings that the halves slide up and down on. They should fit very closely. If worn the pulley halves knock around. Also look at the pins that the halves ride up and down on and the associated grooves. Wear there causes noise...

1958 Powermatic 90 lathe spindle threads

Kreck Some good advice so far. If you are not able to repair the threads you could have a machinist turn the spindle down to a smaller and common size. The headstock is morse taper 2 so on that spindle nose there is a lot of meat. If you need to do this you will want to take your chuck along...

Best grass killer before laying gravel down?

It certainly can. Applying rates as specified on the label will certainly lower this risk but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of collateral damage to nearby vegetation that is particularly sensitive. The real problem is people tend to apply several times the amount needed.

Best grass killer before laying gravel down?

Glyphosate has many uses but long term vegetation eradication isn't one of them. It doesn't persist in soil. It kills vegetation already growing but does nothing to prevent future emergence. For the task of preventing future weeds in your driveway you want something that will stay in the...

    Epoxy primer opinions and options

If Ditzler DP 40/401 is still available you can't go wrong with it. That stuff would stick to glass. It protects metal so well OMC uses it for their outboards.
