$6,000 for 30ft span roof trusses?

My trusses for a 30 x 30 garage were $1700 + tax just over a year ago (out here in BC). Those were 2 x 4 on 24" centres and a 12/4 slope.

Books or Websites that steps a beginner through building a two story garage

Framing a two story garage will be pretty much the same as for a two story house. Take a drive through some new subdivisions where they're still building, and take a look at how the pros have done things. If you're in Canada, CMHC publishes a good reference book, the "Canadian Wood-Frame House...

Learning about garage doors as a service manager.

I've got a problem with my garage door...it's sitting on the ground and nobody wants to buy it! ;-P Welcome to the board, good to have another source of knowledge around.

    DIY slab pour?

When I built my garage, the slab work was the only thing I hired out. You're putting a couple thousand dollars worth of concrete into place, and you have a very limited amount of time to place your zip strips, level, scree and so forth. And if you screw it up, you either have to live with it...

    Hello from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada

Hey Andy...greetings from about as far away one can get but still be in Canada! Check out the flooring section of the forum - there are numerous posts in there covering prepping of slabs for epoxy, and discussions of the merits of different brands and types of epoxy coatings. You'll definitely...

make your shop floor look as good as what you put in it

Just an observation here... Some of the guys have questioned using a myspace place as your 'home base'. I'll take that a step further, and suggest that people aren't likely to look at you as a serious contender when the site you use to represent yourself has bare asses with birthday greetings...

Is it ok to prettify the breaker box?

I've got a 125 amp panel in my garage that doesn't have a door nor provision for a door. Likewise in the house, the heating subpanel has exposed breakers as well. Might be a good theory/practice, but I don't think (at least in my area) that it's a requirement to have a door on the panels.

    What's the deal?

I, too, maintain a large and active forum as well as manage an opensource code project while living with real world obligations to wife, two young children, ongoing home renovations doing all the work myself and working fulltime...so I understand that time for forum maintenance/development can...
