Radiant floor insulation - installing it right

Before you decide how to insulate your slab you need to know a little more about thermodynamics (heat flow). First of all cold does not move. Cold is defined as the lack of heat. What you are trying to do is keep the heat produced by your radiant system and the earth confined and not lost to the...

    Thinking about a business

Here's a local business doing similar to what you are proposing http://www.starherald.com/community/garage-condos-new-to-local-specialty-housing-scene/article_ba5e5eb6-394a-595e-a5ca-3d395253b93c.html A couple of comments on these: I have no knowledge of how successful they have been. The...

    45 degree mount or horizontal

due to the relatively low ceiling, I would mount it at 45 degrees on one of the ceiling corners. This should give you the best overall coverage of the entire space. Cheers Steve

What would you recommend with this garage build problem???

This statement leads me to believe that wind driven rain may have something to do with your leaking. The bottom of your tin installation looks fine to me. I don't see how water could possibly get inside with the sheeting being lapped over the Z channel. What I believe may be happening is that...

Ideas to keep pipes from freezing during construction.

If your frost line is 30" and the pipe is only buried 20", I would be concerned about the pipe freezing underground!

Ideas to keep pipes from freezing during construction.

Instead of this valve, use a stop and waste valve, it will automatically drain down the piping from it to your garage. You can bury it and use a length of PVC pipe for a shut off rod to turn the valve on and off. Cheers Steve

Getting ready to purchase a Bendpak HD-9 and have a few questions

Bendpak packages their 4 post lift for shipment in a special way. Think of a package approx. 2' x 2' x the length of the runways. It is designed to be lifted by a forklift from the end. This allows for easy loading and unloading into van body trucks. They are not designed to be lifted from the...

    Cutting a Table Top

Personally, I would attempt to disassemble the top. Remove the screws if possible using the correct tool. If you cannot remove them, drill them out. Remove the aluminum angles, drill out the wood plugs and remove the tie rods. Possibly the top will then just come apart (if glue was not used). If...

Paint, Oils, Spray Cans, Fluids - Where?

Here's where I store mine now. Previously I stored flammables (reducers, paint, thinners, paint, etc.) in a wooden cabinet and then this happened The state fire marshal concluded that some type of spontaneous combustion occurred when something leaked and created the "perfect" mixture for...

Rotary lifts at sheriffs sale in my town

Don't forget that it must be removed the day of the sale, according to a note on the auction site. That will require another person and equipment to disassemble and load the lift. Not a small deal!! Don't count on someone there to help you.

Spool Gun For My Matco/Century 220 Welding Machine

My first MIG welder was a Century. It was a 220V machine but used the smaller 20 amp plug. It came with a Teflon-lined tube and special wire feed rollers for welding aluminum. I never tried it but this may be something you can look into. Cheers Steve

Like a kid having his gift taken back from Santa....bend pak damaged during shipment

In Bendpak's defense, they do package it sufficiently, BUT, it must be lifted from the END of the package NOT the side. This is done so that it can be loaded into van bodies. It says clearly that it must be lifted this way but how many forklift jockeys actually read anything! Cheers Steve
