Anyone with steel tube frame building

Pole barn all day long. I consider those tube buildings to be glorified carports!

Stick Built Building with Post Frame Trusses

First of all, good decision not to reuse the chicken house “trusses” which are not true trusses and are poorly designed. I can see from the picture that they are sagging. Just use properly engineered trusses on 2’ centers and be done with it.

Under vehicle lift sloping and spill control

You’re overthinking this. Pour a level floor so if you have a spill it will puddle up and you can get oil Dri on it immediately. I’ve had a four post lift for over 35 years and never had a spill that I couldn’t immediately control, just keep the oil dri handy!

    Modify Trusses for Car Lift

Just a few comments from a fellow engineer BSME1970 (Pre CAD era) I’m impressed, you undoubtedly have the most over engineered two car garage ever! Good Job!!

    Suggestions needed on defunct building

Out of curiosity, I drove thru Bayard on my way back from Omaha Monday I was shocked to see how much it has deteriorated since I was there last. How sad! This was once a thriving community here in Western Nebraska. Most small towns here have declined but this community has really suffered. For...

    Suggestions needed on defunct building

At the risk of being too nosy, I have to ask “ why buy a place 3 hours from home?” As to hail and solar panels, NPPD ( Nebraska Public Power District) lost an entire solar field to hail in Scottsbluff last summer.

    Suggestions needed on defunct building

Have you visited with whoever handles code enforcement/building inspections for Bayard? Is rezoning a possibility? It seems to me that bringing the building up to commercial standards is the major sticking point. My 3600 sq ft shop has 200 amp service, which is completely adequate for welding...

    Suggestions needed on defunct building

I’ve seen that building as I have driven thru your town. What a great building for a car guy!!! I live in Morrill, just west of you. I would think the town would be happy to have a run down property be cleaned up. Could you get temporary power as you work on it? Good luck, what a great property!

Tubing installed in 32x50 slab , what heat source ?

Radiant floor heat really works best when the temperature remains constant. Mine takes about one hour to raise the temp one degree, so it doesn’t react very fast to temp setting changes.

Tubing installed in 32x50 slab , what heat source ?

I heat my 3600 sq ft shop with a 75 gallon high efficiency natural gas water heater. It has been going for 7 years without a hiccup. We just went thru some -30 degree temps and it kept up with no problems.

    4 post lift ????

I have had an HD9 for about 8 years. Have had zero problems with it, fit and finish is good. I particularly like the air released locks but I also have shop air which is always pressurized. The only thing I dislike is the ramps have a grit finish on them, don’t know if this is still the case.

Truss Construction – Mending Plate from Scrap Zip Sheathing – Attic Storage – Code Compliance

One thing you can count on. That roof will sag over time!!! Poor construction!

    Plumbing question

your assumption is flawed. You are measuring flow to atmosphere. Put a pressure Gauge and valve on the end of the hose and then close the valve until you get 40 or so psi. This will give you the actual flow at system pressure.

    Bendpak ramps

the 36” ramps should be fine. I have a couple of Corvettes which are fairly low and the 36” ramps work just fine. Here’s a modification I made to mine. They have a tendency to bend down in the area where the wood brace is.

    Finalizing layout for radiant pex.

Exactly!!! Basically you are heating the whole slab and the slab is radiating heat to the building. I left a 4 x 8 section without pex for a two post lift. Never did install the lift but you cannot feel any difference in that spot. I stapled the pex directly to the insulation and laid mesh...

    Finalizing layout for radiant pex.

A couple things stand out. PEX is very stiff and doesn’t like short 90 degree turns. That ziggy zaggy thing on top is not going to work. You have all the inlet tubing in one area and the return tubing in the other area. Your inlet water is going in 20-30 degrees warmer than the return so the...
