ive bought a few 1/2 socket bits off the mac man. a 14 and 17mm allen head and a polydrive headbolt tool for my car. unfortunately, the bit part started to rust and it bothered me. told the mac guy today they need to find a better way to finish the steel. he told me to blue them so i did when i...

Question about Chevy 2.2L S10 (tools)

the connector is probably obd2 style, but it needs an obd1 scanner. that would be my guess. but on second thought i know even the cheap obd2 scanners come with cords (or at least use to) for obd1 hookups. you may need an odb1 cord since im sure the wires are different

Does anyone take their tools home?

I'm just a home mechanic so I don't need to lock anything up but if I'm leaving for the weekend I lock my box to keep my tools out of the hands of my roomates But for op, I wouldn't go looking for a new job yet. My landlord has a diesel shop by my house and he never has anything locked. We are...

    First Pawn Shop Buys

don't know much about the pawn shop as i've only bought one snap on metric 1/4 drive socket set with a time saver for $55. not a steal but not terrible. if you are looking for the old stuff, i'd recommend swap meets. car/snowmobile/four wheeler, whatever kind of swap meets will have a ton of...

    do you ask for permission?

you guys got it all wrong. make them pay for your tools. example- told my girlfriend i am going to drop her oil pan and replace her oil pickup tube, but i need an electric impact to take out all those pesky bolts which would take forever with a ratchet. an electric impact is much cheaper than...

is there awilliams hard handle pick set

i would love to have a hard handle pick set comparable to the so/williams hard handle screwdrivers. i know they make them since i've seen them at the shop, but i cant seem to turn up any info on the internet. is there a williams set of these? i'm talking about the four piece mini pick set.

    Locking flex heads

im a big fan of the matco 88 lock flex head. all the older snap on flex heads i have seen are very floppy and that would annoy the hell out of me. i also love the 88 tooth action. im sure snap on makes excellent locking head versions too, but ive never used one so i can't have an opinion on those.

My buddies mac wobble extensions allow to to press the socket on harder and the wobble goes away. Pull the socket out a hair and it becomes wobble. Are they all like this?

Gettin Married... wife-to-be agreed to let me start a tool registry!

is it just me that thinks wedding gifts should be useless, just like any other gifts? seems kind of cheesy to me to tell people what to get you. to me, if youre getting married you deserve to get 10 blenders, 5 toasters, 3 cookware sets. its tradition

    Impact sockets

agreed. i have sae and metric 3/8 grey's. seem to be pretty damn good quality. at my neighbor's diesel shop, they buy large grey impact stuff. the 3/4 and 1 inch impacts seem even better quality than my little ones

    well, that didn't take long

that would piss me off too. im all for a free market, but people need to be congenial to one another as well. if i am going to barter for a better price, its because i want it. i dont buy something just because its a good deal. i buy something because of the combined value/necessity. the best...
