    Air Compressor Pigtail?

no thats the same type of thing. When using a proper crimper, the metal in the crimp cold flows around the wire and creates a gas tight connection. Anything you use with a hammer just smashes the terminals and you dont get a good connection. One should NEVER use that type of crimper in a high...

200 amp panel with 100 amp main?

on tract homes I tend to see 100A service on <2000sq/ft and 1 HVAC, and 200A service on <2000sq/ft and 2 HVAC 100A services are VERY common. besides the slightly lower cost for the panel and feeder where applicable, the utility install charges are usually quite a bit lower.

    Wiring a bead blaster?!?

is the male plug on the unit molded on the cord or is it one someone installed? if the latter, have you verified its wired correctly?

Can you guys give this wiring plan a once over?

realistically no problem as long as you dont damage the insulation on the conductors but youre not supposed to do it. i would hate to work with 6/3 MC.... you can always just buy THWN wire and run that in your FMC. Why 6/3? You dont need the neutral to your compressor (6/3 romex has 3 wire...

Can you guys give this wiring plan a once over?

the romex is a listed cable assembly which has been tested and found to meet applicable UL standards. The wires inside are a part of the cable and havent been tested and listed to their applicable standard. What the inspectors most likely defer to is the wires have to be marked and the ones...

    Air Compressor Pigtail?

those just smash the terminal onto the wire and do not result in a good crimp. He's using 10ga wire, a regular crimper will do just fine.

thhn has more strands than the conductors in romex

its often not the individual who put it together that ends up getting injured from a contraption like this.

Strange behavior with some lights I wired up.

how are the connections made to the track light head? did you buy the bases for them or just hook some wires up? Are the metal heads grounded?

    Air Compressor Pigtail?

at least the ground should be crimped. During a fault condition (ground fault, short) the soldered ground connection can melt and come apart leaving whatever shorted (the motor in this case) energized. Highly likely? no. possible? yes.

    Welder Extension Cord.

DONT buy those for use on a welder. The jacket is pvc and melts when slag hits it. Use SOOW cord which is thermoset rubber and doesnt melt like pvc does. Also its more abrasion resistant.

200 amp panel with 100 amp main?

I just realized the backfed main suggestion wont fly in canada. They require the main and its wiring to be seperated from the rest of the panel and wiring.

    Air Compressor Pigtail?

those should not be soldered unless they were crimped before being soldered.

    Welder Extension Cord.

the box has to be grounded. you cant rely on the ground wire to the receptacle to the lid to the box connection to ground the box. If the box isnt properly bonded and a grround fault develops in the box (likely in this scenario considering its construction and intended use) the box could very...

    Welder Extension Cord.

just because everyone does something doesnt mean its alright. the problems with yours are: 4S boxes arent listed for use on the end of a cord. Proper thing to do is use a pendant box, but they are very expensive. Next up is a FS box but theyre heavy, using a WP box is not right but a heck of...

    Air Compressor Pigtail?

if you cant find one easily i have the leviton plugs that are 6-30 or 6-50 depending on how you make it up, I could assemble a cord for you.

    Welder Extension Cord.

are you using this at home or in a commercial shop? in concept what you did is ok, but the execution is substandard. Alot can go wrong with that type of construction.

    New Lista photos!

This right here is the difference between Snap-On and the rest of the world. Snap-on deals directly with the end user and through their independent dealers. Other than the couple other tool trucks no one else does this. Companies like Lista and other manufacturers sell through an established...

    Electrical to shed questions

conduit in the ground is a wet location. romex isnt rated for use in wet locations thus it isnt permitted in a conduit underground. If you put a breaker panel in the garage, now your circuit is a feeder and you (are supposed to have) need a grounding electrode, and I think there are some...

    Electrical to shed questions

anything beyond one circuit and you need grounding electrodes. So if you install a subpanel you need grounding electrodes (two ground rods 6ft apart). Unless you know you are going to have heavy power requirements over there just run one circuit. If you think you might need more power out there...
