    Little Scout Vise

I inherited a little Scout vise. I got it working, but the jaws were beat up and don't match up flush. They don't have removable plates, they are solid. Where/how/who would take it and make the jaws match up again? Obviously not me, but since it's inherited, I'd like to get it working.

    Torx head bolt?

Was trying to remove a torx head bolt form a differential on an 82 Cheorkee. The very first bolt I tried to remove and the tip of the torx socket broke off in the bolt, flush with the top. I tried to use picks to get it out, I tried to drill a small hole in it, but as you guessed, that didn't...

    545T Nite-Lite Sentinel

Has anyone installed a 545T auto on/off with dusk/daylight automotive system? I have some questions about the installation. I know "wire color" is not an indicator of function, BUT the only instructions I've found only refer to wire color. So there are some wires I'm not sure about how or...

    Work bench

I'm planning the steel work bench and need some insight. Top - 36" x 72" x 1" With this thickness top, I was thinking I could go with a 4" overhang of the top out past the support frame. The size fits in the corner of the shop where I have the room for it. Frame - 2" x 2" x 1/8" I am...

14" cry cut metal chop saw blade

Ok, I'm going to catch some flak, but before you go off on me, I just spent 30 minutes using the search function trying to find a thread that talked about the best blades. I found some threads where someone mentioned a blade they use while discussing dry versus abrasive, but nothing in the way...

    Craftsman Tool Box Drawer Guides

First I did a search on the different forums, but didn't find what I'm looking for. Maybe because it hasn't/can't be done. Here goes. I picked up a Craftsman 5 drawer work station, the one with the removable MDF top with trays under the top. It's in fairly good shape for what I wanted, but...

    Rust removal with Vinegar?

I have read about using the 20% vinegar for rust removal. I am doing some bolts, nuts and washers that hold the bumper brackets together and don't know how long to leave them in the solution. Question: How do you know how long to leave stuff in? Thanks.

    Not so new metal lathe

But it is new to me. Dad gave me another "fix it" project. He's 83, I'm 62 and you would think by now I'd know better. You see, I have NO knowledge about metal lathes! NONE! So here I am, hat in hand posting a few pictures as I start this trek. I have not even googled this little Atlas...

    Repurpose a Bendpak 2 post

I was given a Bendpak 9000 two post lift. Most of the parts are there, but the guy had it sitting outside uncovered for several years. So the humidity in Houston has caused some rust to start up. I would have to replace many parts and repaint the whole thing for my new shop. Since I'm...

    Reed #25??

My 83 year old Dad came up with another vise for me to restore, a Reed #25. It looks like a nice vise but it was in the mud for some time (years). The main screw is working, but the head of the main screw is almost rusted through to the handle. I have not tried to remove the jaw pads, as I...

I picked up a new to me Econoline Blast Cabinet Model RA-42X24 yesterday. It has the vacuum with it, so seemed like a good acquisition. Replacing the HF bench top unit with something more substantial. I am looking for information on it. I found the Sandblasting.com website and have asked...

    Compressor "feet"

Ok, I've been running my 60 gallon 5 hp compressor on the shipping pallet for a couple of years. It tends to want to wander around a little. So I'm looking at vibration pads for "feet", found the ones at Grainger and was thinking of going with them. Anyone else have an idea that should be...

    Lighting, Lumens, Fixtures ARGH????

I keep reading lighting threads trying to figure out what I need in my shop, 36' x 40' with 12' ceilings, and I am confused. Right now I am planning on 4 rows of lights, with the "rows" going from left to right in the 36' width and then 5 fixtures in each row, running from front to back in...

    Electrolysis solution question

Ok, I've started using electrolysis as a rust killer and it works great. My questions is about the solution. I'm using 20 gallons of water with washging soda and I want to know if I need to dump it out after every use, or if I can use it multiple times over several months or if there is a...
