    The VISES of Garage Journal

Old iron is quite scarce over here. Tons of old farms about, but not many people wanting to sell what they have. I have seen a few good buys however, but school is keeping me broke 99% of the time these days, so I have to pass. I seen a number of pages back you mentioned how you liked my 208's...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

A lot of great new vises coming through these days, it's great to see! I picked up a little Reed that appears to be in good shape, minus some bend in the handle. I'll post pics maybe this weekend if I get some time. Keep up the hunting guys!

    Black Smith Vise C/L $1,300

Twice now I've seen similar vises in person, though a little smaller (4-5"-ish) and not in such good condition, but they were being sold in the $250-350 range. If I seen this one in a local shop without a price tag, my guess on the price before asking would be something like $500-650. Though I...

    vise

junkyardwarrior - what's your local CL? I'd avoid Ebay for the most part... Most of my finds have been from yard sales. Whenever I see anything tool-related, I always ask if they happen to have a vise they'd sell (or whatever else I may be looking for). My wife and I brought home a 5" old Reed...

Finally brought home some more old iron...

Jake, You know how to make someone feel confident, bro haha. Honestly, I pulled the little side plate off, and watched the internals during operation, and everything "feels" and looks crisp and smooth. I looked at the teeth on the... ram part, whatever it's called, and it looks to be in...

Finally brought home some more old iron...

My old iron fever has really had to take a back seat sense moving across state. There just isn't much out here (for sale, anyway). It's been awhile, so I decided to swing in a local second-hand/antique shop to browse their tool selection, and I ended up finding and bringing home some heavy iron...

    Reed swivel jaw price?

I forgot I had this close up, which shows the color better. It's sort of a low saturation blue-green. I dunno, you tell me haha. And yeah, the handle has been replaced, and the top of the slide, at the rear has a crack. It's got some slope and is overall just pretty worn out.

    Vintage garage photos

I thought this was pretty neat, and slowed down to take a picture as I was driving by this summer. This old dealership/shop is located in a tiny little farm town called Harrington, which is in the middle of no where eastern Washington.

    Reed swivel jaw price?

I gotta agree with Fretters here, pretty much across the board. I'd leave the jaws be. As for the color - paint it whatever suits your fancy. As for original color, I'm not sure. I've seen some old Reeds with old paint on them that was a sort of "industrial" looking grayish blue, some an off...

All Reed vises are ****. Send it to me, and I'll dispose of it for you safely. Seriously though, it's a shame it's seen better days, but hey, I still would have picked it up myself had I seen the condition.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT OldCarGuy’s New Toy Shop

Well... damn... I've saved pictures on my phone of your shop, having no idea it was from someone on GJ, while looking for amazing shop pictures to get ideas from. After several cups of coffee, I've worked through this whole thread for the first time. Absolutely amazing, OCG. I wish I was around...
