    Heavy Knife Recommendations?

I completely agree on your main point with many things in life, but this is something I want to have some fun with. I collect guns, not just for the sake of actually shooting them or going hunting, but in the enjoyment of handling what they are. I collect tools, well beyond what I'll ever...

    Heavy Knife Recommendations?

... Aaand now I'm researching metal properties and considering forking out tons of cash for a custom made chopper... Just what I need, another expensive vice. :lol_hitti Thanks for the recommendation, Canoe50, I certainly have to re-think my whole approach.

    Heavy Knife Recommendations?

Thanks for the input so far guys. While I like kuhkris, it's not what I'm looking for. Sense posting, I've looked at Busse and like some of their stuff too. Budget wise, I'd like to keep it under $400 or so. Mohawk Dave - Thanks for the Tops recommendation, first time I've looked at their stuff.

    Heavy Knife Recommendations?

Hey guys, I've been rolling the idea around for some time, on picking up a heavy outdoor knife. I've been using smaller fixed blade knives for a long time, and while batoning (sp?) works well, I just want something that could step up to be a bit of a "chopper". I believe there is always a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Absolutely love it. It's awesome seeing kids getting into using tools. My two boys have John Deere themed little vises they use quite often.:thumbup:

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thought I could read the writing on the box behind the slide, where it looks like it's chipped off, or maybe it's just me. :dunno:

    New Yost Vise Opinions

I bought my Yost 32C in literally "new" condition for $60 off CL. Not a bad vise at all, but I would definitely suggest looking around for something vintage and larger.

    Recommend a leatherman

Another big +1 to the Wave. I've had mine for around 4 years now, carry it daily, use it daily, absolutely ZERO issues with it so far. If I ever break or loose mine, it will be replaced immediately.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Yes, yes I did. I'm sure he would of opted for a Beer had they offered on the flight, but regardless, it ended up in my lap lol. I've wondered actually, as I've been driving through Baker - on the far West side of the town, where the mountains start, if you look NW-ish a mile or two, it looks...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Congratulations! If I was still living in Boise, I think I would of snagged it, had I seen it first lol :drool: Yes, yes they are. Just wanted to say hello to a NW'er! I grew up north of Seattle, and moved to Boise a couple years ago, before moving up north of Spokane this...

How did your tool addiction begin?

This, exactly. My dad always knew how to half-assed fix stuff. Very backyard style of getting things "working again" but sometimes not for long. His tools were no different. No mm stuff in his tool box, just an adjustable wrench "for the odd ****". Everything was no-name old junk tools that...

    Any Recommended Books/DVDs on Machining?

Thanks for the replies, guys! Yeah, I've spent several hours youtubin' different clips, my favorite that I've come across so far is a short series of long videos (45+ minutes each) from an MIT guy. It was both fun and informative to watch. I'll have to check out Keith Fenner and Mr. Pete222...

    Any Recommended Books/DVDs on Machining?

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you had some good books/dvd suggestions on machining, primarily knee mill and metal lathe work, or just general shop stuff. Experience is the best education, but until that happens, I just want to find something that'll help me get a feel for the equipment...
