matco vs snap on torque wrench

The snap on vibrates as well as beeps when you reach your goal, the matco only beeps. Also the snap on just feels a little nicer and more refined. I have the SO and another guy at the shop has the matco, every time he uses his he makes a statement about how he should have spent the extra $$.

Heaviest work table, who has it?

My dad has a welding table 4x8 top of 1-3/8" steel. Legs are 4 inch angle either 3/16 or 1/4 cant remember which. Haven't attempted to weigh it but with our old skid steer it would teeter on the front wheels when unloading from the trailer. Best part is he gave $150 for it there was a surplus...

    Pawn shops, love/hate...

We have one in town that is well organized, all wrenches and sockets divided by size (and drive size in sockets.). But they also ask near full retail for anything decent and will hardly deal on anything, especially snap on. The others just dump everything in bins and deal like crazy, plus the...

Anybody else hate that all Snap On tools are going to soft handles?

I dislike the rubberized grips that they have gone to, I made the mistake years ago when they came out with the previous design comfort grip screwdrivers (pre-instinct) of trading a set of dark blue make-a-wish hard handles in on some green comfort grips. I have hated them ever since. I really...

    GMC or Ford? Hmmmm...

Lol at this thread, I once used to get into the ford/chevy debates. However as mentioned above all the major automakers build quality vehicles. It is highly subjective as to who is best, end of the day they are all nuts and bolts just arranged differently, the reason there are many types is the...

    spark plug sockets

I just periodically give a light squirt of silicone lube on the rubber insert of mine, not too much but a little bit and it still holds the plug in place but comes right off with the extension.

Another reason Sears is goin downhill...

It shouldn't matter what they get paid, whatever happened to taking pride in your job? I remember my first and only retail job when I was 16, I made I think $4.75/hr and didnt care about the money. I remember going out of my way to help every customer. But now everyone thinks someone owes them...

Whats the best craftsman ratchet ever made?

I've never used a CM RHFT, but as far as the teardrop shaped ratchets the only one I've found that I can even stomach the thought of using is my thin profile 1/4", I have had many raised panels over the years from socket set purchases when I was just starting out, one of the 1/4's was broken...

Craftsman Impact Driver everyone raves about.

I've used them from So to HF and have to say they all get the job done. Although the bits vary widely in quality and the cheapo's mushroom a good bit after heavy use and require dressing with a file or grinder.

Anything on the Mac truck worth buying?

The hard handle screwdrivers are excellent. They are the most comfortable screwdrivers I've found (remember handle comfort is quite subjective so no flames.) They also make my favorite valve core tool, also with a red hard handle, and a few other things. Basically if it's a hard line tool made...

    1/2" air hose question

At one of my old shops we had a 3/4" gun with a manifold and two 3/8" fittings attached, we would just string two airlines to the gun to get sufficient volume to the gun. Worked well, but this shop also had an abundance of air hoses unlike my current shop. If there are lots of hoses close...

Well I bought the KR-555 - pictures and restoration questions

Link to the required tool http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/parts/pro_det.asp?item_id=34193&group_id=7768 And a picture I found on google http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb199/the_art_of_design/DSC_0264.jpg

Well I bought the KR-555 - pictures and restoration questions

There is a special drawer removal tool that can be had for a couple bucks, or you can bend one out of a hacksaw blade. Someone will probably chime in with a picture soon. What you do is fully extend the drawer then push it in an inch or two and insert the tool in the slide to allow the tool to...

    Free technician toolbox!

I have worked in dealerships for most of my adult life, I have always worked out of my own box which was handed down to me from my dad when I decided to go into this line of work. This box is my pride and holds a certain sentimental value to me, it may not be pretty but it gets the job done and...

What model is this neglected Snap-on box?

It's almost certainly a kr-5xx, I thought 557 at first but the drawer configuration is different. Friction slides for sure with that old side handle, but those snap-on friction slides work very nicely if you keep them lubed occasionally.

    What drill do you use?

At home I use a porter cable 12v lithium that works pretty nice, it replaced an old ryobi I bought 10 years ago. At the shop I currently have craftsman 19.2 stuff, gets the job done. I was contemplating buying some dewalt stuff when my dad bought a bunch of the craftsman stuff at auction for...

Snap-On Dual 80 Quick Release vs Standard Ratchets Question

I have a couple QR ratchets and they are relegated to the truck box. I find they just frustrate me after using standard ratchets for many years in the shop. But basically it all boils down to personal preference, try a few ratchets with and without QR and then order the style that you prefer...

    1/4 sockets

I am quite the SO fan, and as such all my 3/8 stuff is SO, however all my 1/4 sockets are craftsman and more recently some kobalt, both have held up well, in 12 years of daily shop use I've only broken 1 socket and it was a 12 or 13mm (years ago and I can't remember which it was.). I just never...
