    Scanner / programmer recommendations

For OP give us an idea what you plan on doing. What kind of vehicle and what kind of jobs are you anticipating, maybe we can better recommend what tool is required.

    Scanner / programmer recommendations

Yeah I agree with 2ndgear. What your asking is really multiple tools, not just one. If your just looking to swap wheels and program sensors you can get a tpms tool that can put a vehicle into learn mode, some cars allow you to do it manually. They are available for 500 so. Autels can program...

    Recommendations for ignition scope?

Seeing ignition is one thing, but there's so much more to see when you start going into the rabbit hole. Relative compression, intake/exhaust pulse, fuel rail pulse, cooling system pulse, in cylinder running compression, NVH tetsing... I've been experimenting with using knock sensors to track...

Sets that don’t match. Does it bother you?

Kind of depends for me. Main line work tools that I spent a college education worth of money on.. yeah absolutely needs to match. There's some expectations when you grab a tool for it's fit and function. For my home box or second line stuff, don't care... It's my misfit reject collection anyways.

Thoughts on Toolgrid for toolbox/tool drawer organization?

I see all the pictures of tool grid pictures here and on other posts and while it looks so pleasing I'm not I could handle such a low density of use of space. 🙃 I've got most of my sockets in the earnst twist lock rails. I was unsure of how the plastic bits would hold up but I think I've ever...

    Drill Doctor, Which Model?

Yeah it's a device that takes some practice. I've had mine for a number of years and I've gotten good enough to get a bit to a factory edge. It's fussy for sure and without patience I can see how it would end up in the trash.

    voltage meter purchase.

For parasitic draw this is about as close as your going to get without breaking into the circuit. https://www.aeswave.com/Current-Probe-Low-range-with-Banana-Plugs-p9501.html Anything that does everything rarely does everything well. Dedicated tools for diagnostic purposes. I keep a couple...

Ball Joint & Tie Rod separator DIY

For most of my career I didn't think there was any other way than using a hammer. I finally got a kit of removers because I started seeing more aluminum parts, they deform much more than steel.

    New Snap-On F100

I've been using one for a few months now. It's very smooth and the smaller head helps. But the backdrag is still pretty tight. I've had to warranty it twice now too. Once for it skipping teeth, would randomly freewheel even with nothing touching the switch. The other was for the flex head bolt...

Anyone does mobile auto repair diagnostics?

Are you sure you're not zoomed in too far and looking at something that isn't ignition? I start at 20ms for single cylinder typically.

What vintage or non vintage tools do you like to collect???

Purely from a collection standpoint I love looking for old locally made tools. I had scored an Underhill carpenter hatchet that was made sometime before 1895 one town over from me.

Win 11 on old (unsupported) laptop

I was talking about the laptop not the pico. I went all in with a 4425a and WPS a couple years ago. To be honest I don't use the automotive software very often, just regular t+m. I've also been utilizing a knock sensor lately to diagnose engine noises.

Win 11 on old (unsupported) laptop

I've had good luck using netbooks for various tasks machines. For $200 ish a pop one can be for pico, another for various diagnostic software. I have a couple refurbished dell laptops that have been holding up well too.

Organization of Socket Drawer / Top Drawer Metric + Fractional SAE Discussion

I run chrome on left side and impacts on right side. Earnst red rails for sale fractional and blue rails for metric. I use both pretty frequently. Like today was working on a deck over trailer, nearly everything on the leaf springs and brakes was fractional sizes. I work on old jeeps and...

Power washer pump- rebuild or garbage?

Just went through this with an AR pump. Seals and check valves were short money, but two of the ceramic pistons were cracked. Was about $400 in parts for everything. I must of let it freeze, only reason I fixed it was I know the pump has low hours. And the replacement was still more money. 4k...

I've always had luck using blocks of wood to install seals. Wouldn't take long with a hole saw and some carving to make what you need.
