What’s everyone use to hold their work phone while they are driving?

Yeah, the other day I powered up an old phone I had stored for a few years in a case with a magnetic flap. There were two perceptible round dark spots in the display where the magnets were. If you use a case like that, always put the screen towards the back, not facing the flap.

What’s everyone use to hold their work phone while they are driving?

Pocket, seat, cup holder. I will take incoming calls through the little bluetooth device clipped to the sun visor but I don't get very many, I'm not that popular. Driving directions, the google lady talks to me. I find even hands free conversation is somewhat distracting while driving. I'm...

Is a 1 gal compressor useful for small tasks or will it struggle?

I have a Harbor Freight 3 gal. It works fine for a brad nailer and stapler. It's portable and I prefer it for that rather than dragging out 100' of hose from my larger compressor. It will fill up tires but not without running to catch up, same with dust blowing. The HF 3 gal is $40 with coupon...

    Cable Ties / Zip Ties

Many years ago, a local dollar store was selling these for $1 a pack. He must have got them at a surplus auction. From the baby size up to 18" with and without screw loops, same price. I bought dozens of packs. Sold many on ebay at 1000% or more markup. I still hoard a sizable stash and only use...

    Service Pit Cap

If you don't want to do it yourself, I'm sure a carpenter could build you a wooden one as described by others for much less than $2K. I would build it in four sections so that a normal human could move them if needed. Even if you don't plan to do any automotive work, it's still a big storage space.

    Drill chucks

Agreed, even new corded 1/2" hammer drills can be had for $40. Not big name brands but will have more torque than a 3/8.

    pushing caliper piston

Replace the pads, replace the hardware (clips), lube all metal to metal contact points on pads, caliper and bracket and piston face. Lube slide pins with sil glyde or caliper paste. There's a million brake job youtubes out there, it's worth watching a few.

FYI - Scotchbrite NOT for glass

Wash it well and keep it wet with soapy water while you go over the glass with a razor blade scraper with new blade. You should be able to feel the bumps when you run your hand over the soapy glass. They claim detailing clay will remove over spray too, I dunno.

    What are these spouts?

Checking and buying oil at the gas pump seems like another thing of the past. In fact I can't remember ever getting oil at a gas station, always bought it at a store and added it myself.

    What are these spouts?

As a kid I remember seeing gas pump jockeys use these spouts. There was an art to it, they never seemed to spill a drop. I think the trick was to upend the can before the oil had a chance to spill. One of the first things I bought when I got my first car, I was a complete failure at it though. I...

    Craftsman racial arm saw

Funny this thread should pop up today. Just yesterday I tore down my Craftsman that I used for 40+ years for the $100 recall. Not that I think it's a bad machine, it just was taking up too much space and I recently bought a sliding miter. I did everything you could do with it and it never hurt...

    Driveway expansion joints

This has become common practice lately, I,m not crazy about the idea. They use pressure treated 1X as forms to screed off the concrete and just leave the wood in there. They used to use black asphalt fiber expansion boards, some still do on better quality work.
