This might sound like a dumb question, but here it goes. If a tool/machine has a patent date of say; 26 August 1879, does that mean that it was built on that exact date?

Hi all. I just found this Snap On 7/16", deep socket. The markings read; Snap On STM-14.E made in USA. Looks pretty old, but how old? It is attached to a Wright adapter at the moment. Can't get them apart! Thanks

Sorry for asking what might be a silly question but what so you mean when you say that craftsman don't make tools? Do you mean that someone else makes tools for them? They used to make their own tools, right?
