    fold down bench grinders

I saw a video on Youtube in which a gent had modified large barn door type hinges and mounted bench grinders so that the grinders fold down, under the bench when not in use. They are held under the bench by a latch until needed. Anyone tried it? What do you all think?

    swivel table

First off, let me say that my garage is overstuffed, mostly from being dis-organized, but I'm working on it. Thinking about anything/everything I can do to use my space more wisely, I think I will build two stands/tables for some of my power tools. Each table will have a top on it, just large...

    Books!

Hey, I like my old books almost as much as my old tools. Here are some I just rediscovered, that I had forgotten I had. Most all are from 1954.

    Studebaker wrench

My daily driver is a '55 Studebaker truck on a '87 Dodge Dakota chassis with a 4.3 Chevy V6. I just got a "new" '49 Studebaker truck, also a half-ton, and this wrench was with it. It is an original equipment Studebaker tool. I'm checking to see what other tools would have come with the truck so...

    Another handful of hacksaws

Yeah it looks a lot like a Star by Millers Falls except for the hollow cast handle. Older than the one in your pic maybe?

    Another handful of hacksaws

I recently bought another bunch of saws. Included was a small one with cast frame and hollow handle. It has no name or numbers on it, but has small stars cast into it. Can anyone identify the maker and/or the age?

    Craftsman bench grinder

First post in a while, I just today bought a vintage(?) Craftsman bench grinder, model 397-19501, cheap. Someone restoring one like it on YouTube said the 397- prefix indicates that it was made by Delco. It runs great but needs a new cord. I plan to restore it and use it. And, yes I know it's...

    Carroll Jamieson lathe

I found this but have not seen it in person and don't know if anything else is included besides what's shown. How old do you think it is and is it worth rebuilding? I don't know enough about lathes to evaluate it's condition. Thanks.

    Crafstman tool organizer

I'm pretty sure it was bought in '59 or early '60 when the bowling alley was being built & equipped for Dad to work on the automatic pinsetting machines. The owner/builder bought the tools that Brunswick Corp suggested for maintenance on the new machines. Dad learned quickly and actually made...

    Crafstman tool organizer

I have this Craftsman tool organizer(?) that my late father worked out of for 35+ years. He was the mechanic and manager of a bowling alley in the town where we lived. The bowling alley was built in 1959-60 and opened in '60'. It was Glen Burnie Lanes in Lenoir NC, named after Glen Burnie MD...

    rust removal

I've tried most methods known to man, this man anyway. I've written off vinegar and molasses, too stinky and never did work well for me. I still sandblast or glassbead occasionally but I much prefer electrolysis or Evaporust. I bought a deal in a 5 gallon pail of Evaporust from my favorite local...

    cleaning some tools

Yeah, I have several of the Ford hubcap wrenches, and also have a '21 Model T Touring to use them on. They work well for removing and installing the hubcaps, but other uses not so much. The seller of the "crocodile" wrench was just ignorant. Like the two old-timers I watched examining and...

    cleaning some tools

Blackhawk # 4 15513 I pass on a lot of 12 point box end wrenches that I find because of the worn, rounded teeth but this one was still good.

    cleaning some tools

I put some tools that I had bought and stashed away into Evaporust for a few days. Some of them were pretty rusty but they all cleaned up well. In the 2nd pic, the 2nd wrench from left is marked THE "SUPERRENCH". Note no w in wrench. The 3rd one is marked FAIRMONT CLEVA. Check out the big...

    vintage ? creeper

My friend runs a local trading post and has a neat old mechanics creeper I might buy. It will go well with my Model T, Model A, '40 Chevy, '55 Studebaker, and '56 Ford F100 Panel truck. One caster wheel has a name and patent number on it that I believe dates to 1933. I have not found a name on...

restoring plastic parts on electric tools

I have a Makita router and a couple of other power tools that I would like to clean up/restore. The plastic housings & handles have the usual scratches and scuffs. How's the best way to smooth out the plastics? Very fine sandpaper then polish? I don't want to paint if I can avoid it. Thanks.
