What's your most sentimental tool? and why?

My dad's 1/2 inch "Power-Kraft" ratchet. I think it is a Montgomery Wards item. Made in USA, it works, and is not all that fancy. What I remember to this day is being 7 or 8 years old and HEARING the ratchet mechanism function. I knew I arrived when my dad let me use it. It is still in...

    Holmes on Homes

Heck, it is TV:eyecrazy: I would love to see what ends up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. All with a grain of salt like someone else said. If I sat back and critiqued all the fire/rescue shows on TV I would go bananas. You just can't go by what you see. And hey, I like Canada! Good...

OK Contractors' justify your costs, or am I a sucker?

I have as yet to know a poor contractor. Maybe I went into the wrong profession? I think, with all due respect, you don't know a lot of people. Some may not look poor, but they may be close too it. Perhaps they never should have got into the industry, or who knows. The physical aspect takes...

OK Contractors' justify your costs, or am I a sucker?

Fuel, business license, bond if needed, Labor and Industries insurance can be Real high in WA state, unemployment and all the other "pots" that the employer puts into for the employees that the employer never even sees. Equipment, upkeep on same. I know more contractors that scratch by than...

    Craftsman tractors?

You get what you pay for. For your use, for a short time, go with a craigslist cheapie. I did a bunch of looking and research before I bought a used JD, (that originally came from a dealer, though it was a private sale). Friends rolled their eyes when they bought a new Craftsman with fancy...

how do you guys prevent your yard from becoming a mud hole?

I have moved to higher ground, (not kidding), looked at the history of the area, drainage and gravel. I have the highest property on the road I live on.

    Don't wait to call 911

http://www.flickr.com/photos/seagravedriver/5515488903/http://www.flickr.com/photos/seagravedriver/5515489067/ I am not sure if there was ANY delay in calling 911 at this fire. Things happen fast. We drove 3 miles to a rural area, the smoke column being the last 1/2 mile or so. When someone...

I want my garage to call me if there's a fire starting

Good point on insurance Jack! Call your company now and see what needs to be done in case the worst happens. I was in South Africa less than a year ago, and their fire dept. is, well, not what it used to be. Businesses have very nice hose reels with actual fire hose and firefighting nozzles...

I want my garage to call me if there's a fire starting

A bit of a hijack, but as a firefighter and a guy with a loaded garage, I need to stress prevention. A recent fire I was on had the owner working under a car dropping a gas tank. Fuel from tank to trouble light, "WOOOOOF"! He rolled out, grabbed a 5 lb dry chem a few feet away, turned back...

Try the ebola monkey man site for some ideas. I do not know, but he may have some links for ideas. I would consider saying you are in the area and are going to come by. Maybe you can get close and freak him with ip address stuff. Google it and keep us posted!

Please recommend an excellent Trash Can

Just got off the phone with Rubbermaid. They are going to send me a replacement product. They did state that they require a receipt or a label that was on the can, neither of which I have. A nice lady named Wanda said that they can replace it out of courtesy one time, and will do so. I did...

Please recommend an excellent Trash Can

Reason being is, trash cans are one of the most used items on a day to day biases that i have. I was looking at this thread with interest, (worse things out there!) I had just had the trashman haul off my old Rubbermaid cans, as the bottom wore out after 5 years or so. My new Rubermaid ones...

My first ebay fail. Cripe Distributing. What should I do?

I have sold and bought hundreds of items on ebay. Never lost a thing. I had an M1A National Match get shipped via UPS to me from Springfield Armory. It was sitting on the doorstep with the barrel out the end. I am not a fan of large government agencies, but my experience had been good.

    Stragest things you have seen

Had a fire engine go in for brakes. They ran out of time and only did half. The right SIDE only! Stopped kinda weird. We don't use that shop anymore.

    An old fool scammed, warning

During this thread, I have sold 2 pieces of furniture on craigslist. That being said, scams are everywhere. Now for some fun to make us feel better. Warning, some of these are a bit, shall we say...."blue". http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/index.html http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/edward.htm...
