Ventilation, HVAC for new garage suggestions

If you have a conventional hvac system then you can use a ERV energy recovery ventilation system. When your blower on your furnace is on it ***** in air from outside and blends with conditioned air and exhaust stale air from building. they work great, I have installed them in businesses and...

    Wall construction for metal sheeting

I’m going to start framing my garage when lumber drops a little more. I’m wanting to use pole barn metal for the siding with conventional framing. The best thing I can come up with is to build my exterior walls with 12’ 2x4s, sheet with osb or plywood, then wrap that with house wrap. Then...

Rheem Gas Fired Heater - Possible Purchase or Keep Looking?

Just hang the furnace horizontally at the ceiling and run pvc vent thru the side wall. Won't take up any floor space. As far as the condensate drain goes, pipe it to a sink or floor drain. The one in the shop at work is piped to a 8 gallon bucket that gets dumped twice a week. Not the most...

    Black iron gas pipe

I run black iron pipe at least once a week at work for the last 22 years. Steam boilers, hot water heat, air lines etc. never had a problem with it. We do only buy domestic pipe though. Never used import.

    Gas Line for Mr Heater

Every time I see that stuff on a jobsite it's never done right. Nobody ever has the outside jacket under the fitting. They always have the yellow jacket a inch back. The jacket is there to contain a gas leak. Also I would even use that pipe, it's too easy to poke a hole in. I found a roofing...

    Hot water tank melting?

And there is nothing wrong with the flex chimney liner. That is common practice when running a new line up through a old brick or block chimney. Not many chimneys out there can you get b vent down. The flex chimney liners are made for that.

    Hot water tank melting?

You either have a plugged chimney or something in your house is causing a negative pressure on your house or utility room. Second look, looks like this is a basement. A range hood without proper make up air can do this or a return air from your furnace if it's in the same room as water heater...

Need info on one toilet DIY septic system.

I wouldn’t put one by the lake, but they work great for a garage or shop. Does the same thing as a large system. Just smaller. Solids stay in tank and get broke down by the bacteria and liquid soaks in the ground. Doesn’t get much more environmentally friendly then that. The septic systems I...

Need info on one toilet DIY septic system.

55 gallon plastic drum, 12’ of chambers with end caps and your done. 100 bucks. I did this for my wood shop 15 years ago, the kids use that bathroom every day and never had a problem. I also did this for my new garage. The old timers did it this way but used **** to **** clay tile. I still come...

    Bid Disappointments

Those prices are crazy!! I have started my 26x44 12ft wall detached garage recently. I'm in 3900 bucks so far. That has gotten me, my footings and stem wall 3ft down to frost line, 2in foam board around perimeter to frost line, 26 ton 1in rock graded in the middle for my slab to set on. My full...

    Tubing installation question

We always use 6in wire mesh to tie the apex down to. It helps to keep things nice and straight. Take a ton of pictures when your done with a tape measure stretched out. I just had to look up pictures from a job we did 15 years ago because a guy was wanting to add some walls in his basement...

Those of you with hanging heaters

Thanks for all the comments. If I do go furnace then I would run the duct at the ceiling and pull the return air at floor level. I'm thinking 95 percent 2 stage heat. I have my frost walls done with 2in foam down to the frost line. I just compacted the 1in rock tonight. I think I will at...

laying my tubing and need help

Your fine, the floor with radiant won't get hot enough to melt a wax ring. The incoming water for concrete shouldn't be over 125 degrees. The floor will never get that hot. Even if it did that s not hot enough to melt wax
