    Fluorescent lights for the garage

You should have gone with the T8's. They seem allot brighter to me than the T12's.

    painting stainless steel

Not exactly garage related, but I need some good advice on painting stainless steel plate......So here goes..... I am building a house, and have an exposed cedar truss on my front porch. Since we live close to the coast (50 mi.) I decided to make my truss brackets out of S.S. Now that I have...

    Pole Barn - Roof purlins

Why not 5' centers? That way they spacing evens out and you have 10 rafters. I dunno, maybe not. I have only built pipe pole bars, no experience with wood spanning.

Recommend type of lights, size, how many?

I was very suprised at the light that 6 of the 8' long T8 fixtures put out in my 30x40. Lights are mounted @ 14', and they are pretty dang bright. Got mine at lowes. They take (4) 4' bulbs to each 8' fixture.

    New member here, lighting questions

I have the 8' long, 4 bulb T-8 fixtures in my shop. Bought them from Lowes last week, and installed them in my 30'x40' shop. They are approx. 14' high, and put out allot of light. I installed the "daylight" bulbs as well, and I am happy with the color. right now I only have 4 fixtures, but i...

Here is a pic of what my lean-to's look like. I need some lighting under there, and Im not sure what kind to go with. I dont really want MH or MV lights. I want something that comes on quickly, and puts out plenty of light. I was really wanting something that would attach to the shop wall...

    Shop Safety Tips...

Im not a pipe fitter by trade, but my whole shope is framed out of pipe. You have to use a grinding wheel to clean fit-ups, and bevel edges. The main thing is using good, quality wheels, and discarding them when the time is right. I have used cheap grinding wheels before, and they come apart...

    roof vents with metal rooof??

This is what I think. You have a ridge cap similar to part# 200 in this rige roll image. I would buy me a couple ridge vents, some closure strips, and screws I needed. The ridge vents come in 10' lengths. Not sure how long your building is, but you could get by with just 2 of them in the...

True! And be carefull what side of your work that you are standing on! If your work catches, you want it to hit the back of the drill press, not you. This is one of the first things my grandfather taught me when I was learning to use the drill press at a young age. Good one.

Those face shields are even good when running a weedeater. I dont like wearing them, but when you get a stick to the mouth it will make you appreciate it! When I am welding I wear a Carhartt shirt, untucked to let the slag roll off me. Be careful not to wear shirts that are starting to fray...

Pics of my rolling metal work bench.

Table looks good. I like the "self contianed" aspect of it. I would recommend running a piece of tubing or angle all the way around, about 3"-6" up off the bottom legs. This will help stiffen up the legs, and make the table more stout for moving it around...Especially outside. Plus it would...

    Using T-111 as siding question

Down here in TX, it does not take T-111 long to rot. I hate the stuff. It's brick, or Hardie siding for me!

    cleaning anvil?

I would put one of these on my grinder, then finish off with one of these on my grinder, This will get all the rust and scale off, and give you a nice clean finish to work off of.

    Pole Barn Pole Depth

My post hole digger with a 12" auger & extension will dig 5'-0" deep. My corner poles are 5"dia. well casing, and my intermediate poles 4" dia. sch. 40 line pipe. We where off on my corners holes some, so I had to hand dig them out to be able to get the corners square. I ended up putting 10...
