Compressor tank with a hole in it, what to do?

I've heard that compressor tanks can explode, and I've read stories on the internet about people welding them to fix the problem. I realize that if there is one pin hole, there are probably others. What is your opinion on whether or not to scrap the tank? This is on a Sanborn 2 1/2 hp 20...

    Craftsman 103.24280 Restoration

Well, it's been a while since I bought my first C'man bandsaw. I now have a second one for parts, so I'll start the restoration. With the second saw, I got the belt guard, a better table, and guides. Here is the first saw. I picked the best parts, and started cleaning/polishing. This is...

Direct me to King Seeley Bandsaw lower shaft thread please

I've searched several times, and can't find out how to remove the lower shaft on my Craftsman bandsaw. I have two saws now, and need to swap over the shaft from one to the other. Anybody know if this can be done without ruining the bearings? Thanks. This is the first one with good shaft...

What kind of steel is the back of a dryer made of?

I'm talking about the louvered sheet metal on the back. I can think of some good things to do with the louvered sections if I can weld them without danger. They look galvanized, but I can't tell, and honestly, don't know how to tell if it is galvanized. Thanks.

    Saving ANOTHER Craftsman Toolbox

I just finished my Craftsman chest yesterday, and I've now started on his baby brother. It's a two drawer toolbox that I got a pawn shop for 5 bucks. I couldn't let it sit there, so home it came. This corner will need a spot weld, and I've already cut out the bottom front part and replaced...

    Funky double stamped Craftsman socket

I was organizing some of my flea market finds, and came across this. If it was an old coin, I would retire! Anyone else have similar sockets or tools with mistakes in the stamping?

What recommendation for welding helmet and gloves

I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase my first MIG welder. It's the Lincoln Weld Pak 140. I've used a stick welder, but never a MIG, and it's been a long time since I welded anything. What would be a good, relatively inexpensive shield and gloves? Thanks.

Rust, Primer, Paint, Body Filler questions

I'm working on an old Craftsman tool chest, and some advice from you experts in body work please. I need to be able to cover some lightly rusted/pitted areas with body filler. How do I do this right? My metal is lightly rusted. I've removed most of the major rust, but there is some light rust...

    Saving a Craftsman Tool Chest

I finally found this chest that will match my lower cabinets, but it is in terrible condition. I smells like tacos (no kidding), is rusty, bent, missing the lock, has a ton of holes from the rivets that were in it, and generally hard to like. So why am I trying to fix it? Because I've been...

    Vintage-ish Waterloo Machinists Chest

I purchased this Waterloo box with some wrenches I chose from the same guy. It's missing the drop front. Does anyone know where to buy this replacement part? The date of manufacture is July 1970 I believe. I can find the 'door' on Kennedy's site, and it looks similar to pictures I've seen of...

Finally got my work bench set up

I can't remember if I posted pictures of the workbench I built, but here it is after getting my vise and woodworkers vise installed. I know, the bench is a wreck! I have a lot of organizing going on.

What do you know about these pliers, brand, manufacturer, etc. I can't find any 'flower' trademarks. Thanks.

    My ongoing tool finds

I guess I better start posting some pictures before this gets out of hand. Opppps, it already is out of hand. At least I have an understanding wife! I am an old Craftsman tools fan, so if you are too, enjoy. There are other brands, and I'll try to list some of them. These are from an estate...

Dividers with a short history lesson

I got these dividers out of an old Craftsman tool box that I finally got around to cleaning out. I bought two Craftsman rolling cabinets, and the guy pretty much threw in the two older boxes for free. There were a few interesting things in them, and this is the one I think is the coolest...

Help with slip joint plier nut please

I've searched the internet, but can not find a source for the nut and washer for slip joint pliers. I'm working on an older SK 7510 at the moment, but will need the same parts for other brands also. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Where do you find out what constitutes a 'full set'

I'm trying to complete some sets: wrench, socket, screwdriver, etc. Where do you guys go see pictures of what specific items were originally in a 'complete set'? I'm mostly into vintage Craftsman, but can't find a good website. Thanks.

1980's? Craftsman 1/2" drive 1/2 Socket with black band

I am missing the 1/2" socket from this set. I believe they came with the Stainless ratchet wrench set. The tools belonged to my father, and when he passed away, I got all the sockets except the 1/2. I have tools to trade, or will purchase. Thanks

My 70's Craftsman Rolling Tool Chest Restorations/Refurbishes

I bought these four boxes, and some tools for $100. I have started on the red tool roller. Here are a few pictures of my progress. First, I washed it with Simple Green and then dish washing detergent. I wanted to repaint as little as possible, so I plan to leave most of the drawers as they...

    Homart/Sears Cooler from 50's

I got this fan at an estate sale for 20 bucks. I don't know why I bought it, but it looked cool, and will go well with my other Craftsman stuff. I started the restore, and there will be more pictures to come. Let me know if this thread should be in a different location. It has a Craftsman...
