This is an interesting old thread. I've decided I like 936 ratchets, and I love the look of 830s but I don't have any yet. It is amazing what these go for on eBay - definitely no $10 ratchets to be found there.
All of that being said, I picked ip a like-new T936 about a year ago and it has...
I did some tools not long ago with a homebrew rust-blue recipe and they turned out great. The best part is you probably already have all the supplies in your kitchen. Google it, but if I remember it is basically vinegar and salt. Rust it, then boil it to blacken. Repeat until it looks good.
If you Jeep guys ever need a trip to the southeast, check out Jeep Fest in Jasper, Georgia. It is a pretty big event with trail rides all over the Chattahoochee National Forest: https://www.sheriffsjeepfest.com/
It is local for us, so at some point we plan to buy a Jeep and attend, butit...
Do any of you use these reciprocating-style T-handle wrenches? Do they work well? I was doing valve covers on a Subaru today and thought something like this could be useful in that it has the reach of a long wrench but doesn't require the swing room to ratchet it...
Does this, or any other software, have parts interchange capability? Every parts website in the world has it, I need a shop software that does it too. It drives me crazy to order a Brand A part and then find out I had Brand B sitting on the shelf already.
Here is an easy one for Honda guys: what is the best tool for the quarter-turn fasteners on a Civic undertray? I have been using a big flathead, but it is not a great fit. Do I need a huge flathead?
I don't like the preprinted socket trays, because they almost never fit my sets. I just started switching from old metal socket rails to Ernst Socket Boss and so far I think they are great.
This is the same economic decision as most items we buy. For increased utility price goes up. Utility includes things like cost, function, durability, aesthetics, pride of ownership, and utility is somewhat subjective and different for every person. Price generally goes up exponentially...
I can relate to the mental challenges you are describing. I grew up in the 80's and 90's when they had gotten rid of the automotive programs at our schools because everyone should go to college. I went to college, wore a suit and tie to work for twenty years, but always loved working on cars...
I just got my first small order of Socket Boss. Apparently now I am going to have to buy tons and tons more. I love them, and I am going to have to do the while dang drawer. The extension clips for rails are going to break me - I have a ton of extensions. I have four rails of 1/2" sockets...
I have a little bit of everything, but my favorite set is a little Torx bit set I got at Ace Hardware in the 1900's.
Past that, I have old Craftsman and Husky, some Snap On, some Icon, some Capri, blah blah. It all works pretty good.
