Back in the day the Marson Knocker was the tool of choice for repair for inaccessible body panels. It was a tool that held a sheetmetal screw on one end a slide hammer on the other. It had other attachments for moving fender edges and other such things. The modern stud welder and spotters make...

In my garage I have a 1940s lathe.

Your motor has four leads coming out two white one red and one orange reverse the connections to the white leads put the red ware the orange was and the orange ware the red was and I think your motor will reverse. Changing the input power leads will not effect rotation.

Patching Rusty and Thin Sheetmetal - JB Weld? Fiberglass?

Their is a type of filler commonly called kitty hair that's a fiberglass reinforced bondo that might be a good for filling the small holes it's probably cheaper than JBWeld. The roof patch says pop rivets and a hunk of sheet metal beat to fit.

Best way to fix a small void in a machined casting bore?

IMHO the correct answer is to replace the casting anything else is a repair of a defective part. I was suggesting something that might be better than goo.

My experience with Harbor Freight hardware is that I'd be better off if I threw it away before I brought it home.

I'm a long time landlord so I'll offer some advice, never rent to someone that complains about the rent, always get a large deposit, charge enough rent to pay for the garbage service and landscaping.

Using a lathe as a rotary weld positioner ?

Do you ever watch those Pakistani guys on U- Tube? They seem to do it all the time. I often wonder if they have a carbon ground brush built into the lathes so that the bearing aren't ruined.

I worked in the high vacuum world for most of my career, what I remember from the design classes for system design is that the pumping equations resembled probability calculations. Put differently a larger pumping opening is needed for the molecules to find it.

What's your opinion about adding some die when you top up your ac system? I've found more than one Leakey schrader valve that way. Do you feel OK topping up a 134A system by pressure?

My first exposure to zip ties was in the industrial world, we called them ti-raps because that was the name that Thomas and Betts called them. We also used crimp fittings from Thomas and Betts. The junk sold in hardware and auto parts is an example of what happens when good stuff is cheeped to...

    Rustoleum Primer/Enamel Failure

If the paint has adhered to the surface how did the surface see enough oxygen to rust? Is the paint porous? In the real world bare metal is converted with phosphoric acid as part of the painting process.

Heavy Metal Removal in the Field

Get a scarfing tip for your torch it's a tip that is bent about 90* you can cut real close with one of those. A 9" grinder will make short work of what you need to do. That kind of work was everyday for me for a lot of years it's a good upper body workout.

    Rustoleum Primer/Enamel Failure

What did you do the clean the parts after sandblasting? Sandblasting can leave dust on the surface that might keep the paint from adhering. Parts should be cleaned with a wax and grease remover that evaporates slowly so the dirt floats to the surface and is removed with a clean cloth or towel...

More random thoughts, when a surface is stripped to that point it's time to treat it chemically and primer it. The chemical treatment is a phosphoric acid solution that converts the surface from iron oxide to iron phosphate. Common trade name was metal prep. I like to use epoxy primer because...
