Bought Bridgeport Clone - Now Getting it Set Up for Basic Machining

Kurt vices are magic because the moving jaw has a mechanism that makes it clamp down as it moves in. Keeps the work piece squarely against the fixed jaw. Used collet's can be a **** shoot they do ware and loose consentrisity you also don't need a complete set 1/4,3/8,1/2, and 3/4 would...

Bought Bridgeport Clone - Now Getting it Set Up for Basic Machining

I've used a tow truck to unload machinery often. It was much cheaper than a crane service. If you rent a forklift DO NOT PICK IT UP UNDER THE BASE!!! pick it up under the dovetail.

Bought Bridgeport Clone - Now Getting it Set Up for Basic Machining

If you must buy a mill drill do your best to avoid a round column. If you want to conserve space buy the Enco or the other knee mill you showed in your first post.

Bought Bridgeport Clone - Now Getting it Set Up for Basic Machining

You have said that you want something you can use right away if that's the case buy a good drill press. The tooling and measuring equipment you need to use a mill can exceed the cost of a used machine. Compare the cost of a drill bit verses a end mill. For someone without some experience or...

How would you clean this up?

I worked for a place that did a lot of silver soldering of brass and copper. We used a diluted solution of hydrochloric acid to clean up the parts. I've used metal prep to do the same thing. Metal prep not rust converter.

Keeping a table top drill press handy but also out of the way.

Lazy susan bearings are readily available but not very heavy duty. I built a rotating table for spray painting using a rear wheel bearing assembly from a C-4 corvette that works well. The Corvette bearing is not magic it's just what I had on hand. Check out Rock auto or the junkyard and design...

Your Biggest Fantasy Tool (That Doesnt Exist)

A rheostat would do that. You just need to do some ohm's law to figure out what resistance and wattage rating you need.

Adding bathroom with no drain nearby but some interesting optoins

I can't tell you how I know this BUT the building inspectors in Sonoma county are mostly complaint based, mostly concerned with life safety issues and don't "prospect" for violations.

Techniques to cut 1/8" thick smooth aluminum sheet (30" x 48") without marring smooth surface?

I would use a jig saw with a good blade. A lot less drama that a circular saw. Another option would be a vertical bandsaw if you can find one with enough throat depth.

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Mixed Grill - From London , England - GRIZZMAKES world

I have a 48" extension for my pressure washer, I think that it was about $40.00. It really improved the effectiveness of the pressure washer for overhead and ground cleaning. Much easier on the body.

    Find me a Fab table

You can buy cast aluminum tooling plate 3/4" or thicker that has a flatness spec of .005" . Used lot's of it for fixtures and such like. our shop had Acorn cast iron welding tables about 10" thick that were blanchard ground when you unclamped a weldment it still moved. If you need really flat...

    Machining a metal instrument panel?

Tried getting stuck manifold bolt out... Welded extractor inside

Screw extractors are harder than drill bits you will never be able to drill it out. Your chances of using a carbide drill in a hand held drill are zero or less. You could grind it out with a small stone or a diamond burr but it's difficult to keep on center and not mess up the aluminum. After...

Tried getting stuck manifold bolt out... Welded extractor inside

Not long ago I was asked to remove a broken extractor from a aluminum casting. I ground it out with some small diamond burr's I got at Harbor Freight. None of them were bigger than 1/8" diameter which helped controlling the damage to the hole.

    Little Atlas Bandsaw

You can order bandsaw blades from McMaster-Carr by length. $100.00 for a bandsaw blade seems wasy too much.

Question about what constitutes a garage conversion?

Take this information with a grain of salt, according to my wife who is a city planner here in Sonoma county CA it's not a garage conversion until you encroach into the required parking area. Here it's 10'x20' per car. Rules in your city may be different.

Rubber parts seem to be the most problematic parts in the restoration world. The guy that custom glass work in my area says most of what's out there is junk. I went through three sets of window rubber to get the window's to work properly in my C4 Corvette. Rubber is not a place to go cheep...
