Not mine, but I'm really green with envy

I remember a tractor like that when they built my Morton building. It had several "Morton specific" features on it. I think that platform had railing that folded up to use as scaffolding and could also be used to move metal or post. Those guys are awesome to watch. My 44' X 75' original building...

    Purlin height for overhead cabinets?

I wish I could have thought far enough ahead to do this. Do you know exactly where you are putting cabinets? Do you plan to cover these purlins with raised rib metal before mounting the cabinets? If so, know that you will need spacers to fill the voids between the ribs. If I had been thinking, I...

    40x60x? in Florida

Please wait for Morton's bid before you make a decision. I have dealt with them on 2 occasions years appart and cannot say I ever had a problem. Also, their warranty is one of if not the best in the bussiness. My original building was 45 X 75. When I had the salesman out to quote a 45 X 50...

Rough In for lawn irrigation system?

You may want to consider a separate meter for your irrigation system if your town allows you to not pay sewage charge on irrigation use. If allowed, I would put a spigot on that meter for car washing, pressure washing, etc..

    Something my concrete guy suggested.

When I built my shop, the contractor suggested that and I'm so glad he did. It works great. He had them form up the set back at the doors when they poured the main floor, then poured the apron in front about 1.5" lower up to the main floor ( after removing the forms ). You may have to walk your...

Sheet metal interior guys, walls or ceiling first?

I did my ceiling first, then went around the walls with "C" channel for the wall panels to fit up into. At the floor I used a "Z" channel backed with a piece of 2 X 2 for the wall panels to rest on. I used Metal Building Supply Co. in Piedmont, S.C. (www.metalbuildingsupplyco.com) . Go to their...

    Metal Siding bottom detail

Also, most metal manufacturers can provide a foam seal strip that matches the profile of the metal panels. That would go a long way towards sealing the bottoms of the panels and keeping the "critters' out. Chip.

Wavy Floor (to say the least)!

I have no first hand experience with "floor leveling", but I am constantly contacted by contractors offering to come in and repair my damaged concrete floors with a leveling compound before applying epoxy. Maybe something like that would work. I am sure it is not be cheap, but suspect it would...

    Tyvek in steel building

Here's an opinion from a non professional that's worth at least twice what you're paying for it! Instead of Tyvek, place some 1/2 inch foil covered insulation behind your metal panels. My builder (Morton) suggested this when I built my original 45 X 75 as I was going to build living quarters...

    metal pole building

I have a Morton building and the jamb trim at my 10 X 10 door openings was below the level I wanted my concrete apron to be. The concrete contractor supplied a heavy "tar paper" similar to roofing felt (could have been roofing felt) that he wrapped the bottoms with. Seems to have worked OK as it...

Pics Needed of Outside of Building - Looking for Good Looking Outside Design Photos

Search Morton Buildings. Their web site has several galleries of beautiful buildings. Most are metal exterior. Chip.

Metal vs drywall ceiling in garage

I used metal on my walls and ceiling in my shop. All electrical is surface mounted in conduit. My building is a pole barn and it was just easier. If it had been a stud wall construction, I would have still used metal on the ceiling but gone with a wood covering on the walls for ease of mounting...

Need help with a new job

Keep a roll of cheap tin foil handy. It works great to wrap around an exhaust pipe or drive shaft to divert oil away when draining. Every time I got my Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 back from having it serviced, it would drip oil and smell like oil burning for a couple days. First time I did it myself, I...

    detached or not

I would say that legally it is attached. I have seen some on this board attach their shops with a covered breezeway in order to get around size restrictions on detached garages/buildings. Check with your local governing body to be sure of what qualifies if you are cosidering building. Chip.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

Try McMaster-Carr. I just bought some rivets like that to attach data plates to machinery. They come in several sizes. Check them out on the web at www.mcmastercarr.com. Chip.

Broken Gear in garage opener, should get new one?

I'll bet the $30-$40 part is a kit. I replaced the gears in my Chamberlain unit a few years ago and one of the parts companies, www.garagedooropenerparts.net, offered just the gear for about $20 and a kit for a little more. The kit included both gears, a shaft, and all the bearings and grease...

    Pole barn concrete

I would talk to a contractor with experience in building a "pole barn". Years ago, I built my home/shop (1 structure) in a "pole barn" configuration. County codes required engineered drawings for the building shell. The floor was not considered part of the building since a true "pole barn" may...

Looking for Odd Electrical Connector (Auto)

Go look through the brass fittings at your local hardware or home improvement store. Ferrells (sp?) used inside plastic tubing with compression fittings to prevent crushing the tubing look a lot like part of that piece. Maybe you get lucky and it's the right size (they come in several) and you...

finally starting 36x48 Morton pole barn

Congrats on the new Morton building! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. I started with a 44 X 75 with a 22 X 44 apartment in one end. I later added 44 X 50. The insulation package is incredible. The guys at Morton used to be great to work with. No such thing as cost overruns or late...

    Received a estimate today.

I have the 12' ceiling in my Morton building and wish I had gone 14' every time I put my 3/4 ton pick up on my 4 post lift for oil change. If you decide to stay with 12', DO NOT place any lifts under overhead door track areas. I have 10' doors with automatic openers and damaged the roof on my...
