    Garage attic insulation

I think he's just letting us know there is possiblilty of fire spreading from either or (the garage to house, or house to garage) w/o the fire wall, even though it meets code if done when built. I have valuables, but if I can get my wife and guns out of the house, and the truck out of the...

    Garage attic insulation

I appreciate it. But what was the change, adding a firewall between the garage attic and house attic? The garage was finished in 5/8" fire retardant sheetrock during the construction of the home.

help - Can I heat garage with house furnace?

I inquired with my home inspector, and he said that I could put in a vent and meet code. This is because the garage is finished with 5/8" fire resistant sheetrock and a 2hr burn door into the house. He also said that older homes don't have to meet the current codes (not sure what all is involved...

    Garage attic insulation

OK, finally got time & $ to get this done this week. I've got a 22x22 attached garage that was finished when the home was built, so there is no fire wall and the attic is open above the whole house. Only access to attic is in garage. When built, the garage section was not insulated, so it's...

help - Can I heat garage with house furnace?

I talked to a buddy who's family runs one of the local HVAC companies in the area, and he stated as long as their is not a return, there wouldn't be any issues with fumes. He did say if the garage is tight, then w/o having a return, all you're doing is pressurizing the garage, and at some...

Snow & Ice buildup on roof

Well the first 1-3' of snow has been removed around the perimeter of the house, exposing the solid ice beneith. Hopefully with the warmer temps tomorrow (currently -15 w/ wind chill here) they will melt down, and the rest of the snow comes off in sheets. I am not so worried about the weight of...

Snow & Ice buildup on roof

I'll have a look in the attic after I get off work today to see if anythings happening. Any recommendations on how to get the ice damns apart? The more I think about it, I have to get them off the roof!

Snow & Ice buildup on roof

Well we've been dumped on pretty decently this year in Northern Ohio, and I starting to wonder about the load on the roof of the garage and house. The home is only 5 years old, with a finished garage with sheet rock. The attic space is completely open (no fire wall btwn. house and garage), with...

Filling my own 20lb LP tanks

Yep, the grill gets moved depending on where I'm working. If I'm in the house then it gets used on the back covered patio. If I'm working in the garage, it gets moved to the driveway/sidewalk  All depends on where the action is and how much precip. has fallen.

how to reinforce garage ceiling to use attic

Ok, so if storage is minimal, what happens when you need to get into the attic to run wiring, fix leaks, etc. I weigh 210lbs, is it safe to be stepping on the trusses?
