    Shower in shop.

It‘s not a shower. It’s an emergency eye wash station with an enclosure to keep the water off your tools.

    Garage freezer Temperature Swing

The temperature in the refrigerator controls the compressor in most refrigerator freezers. When ambient is Cool, the refrigerator doesn’t run much which allows the freezer to warm up. there are garage kits available for some combo units.

water leaking thru gap just outside overhead door

Sealant isn’t the answer. You need to make the water go elsewhere.

I use a silver Sharpie to write on them what they are for.

    Underground air line?

I’m in the process of running power to a new building where we store our 5th wheel. While planning the trench, I asked myself what else I might want to send to the building via the trench. Fiber is already happening as it’s handy for keeping TV firmware updated and there is an outdoor hookup for...

    Have I lost my mind?

Manufactured gates are typically around 6” shorter than the opening. Two true 6’ gates would be too large for a 12’ opening with hinges and latches. The easiest fix is to add a board or pipe on the hinge sides to reduce the size of the opening. Custom gates is the other option.

After 55 years I found a use for this tool

A multibit screwdriver is a great magnetic 1/4” socket. Watched a guy fight a screwdriver trying to tighten hose clamps, and told him to take the bit out and use the shaft. He did one and just stared at it like it was magic.

    Round-up question

Since it is absorbed through the foliage, glyphosate is most effective with maximum leaf area and a healthy, growing plant. Don’t cut before you spray.

    Highlander strange voltage readings

Batteries haven’t changed. An 11.8V charger output would be below the battery OCV, resulting in it draining the battery rapidly. It would require significant power consumption and resultant heat to lower battery voltage to 11.8V

    Highlander strange voltage readings

Voltage dropping to 12.4V indicates either voltage drop at the point of measurement, an electrical load larger than the battery and charging system can handle, or a battery that isn’t fully charged. Not likely there is much drop on the circuit to the plug. Battery is new Your battery should...

    Generator voltage question

No, they would each still read 120V because they are in series.

Looking for liability insurance for small shop business

I tried in the past to get insurance to cover a side gig doing some repairs. I mostly was concerned with liability in case something burned or caused a wreck. What I could find just wasn’t financially feasible for part-time work. One of the people I was talking with said most people who are full...

    Generator voltage question

A missing neutral does not show up on an unloaded circuit. Your meters will read exactly the same unloaded with or without a neutral in place.

    Generator voltage question

Not really weird. 120V loads are wired in series across the 240V lines with the loads on each side of the transformer in parallel. The neutral wire provides a bypass path for current flow to balance while keeping the voltage at the neutral junction constant. Without a neutral wire, the voltage...

Running dc power from battery to trailer hitch portal winch.

Most vehicles have that line fused at 15A, and in reality it can be difficult to source more than 8A for battery charging because of the small wire and the resultant voltage drop.

Shake & Break air hammer bit saved the day

That is the very first tool I ever owned. Exactly the same. Still have it in my box. When I was about 16, I went to a flea market with my recently retired grandpa. He was an old-school mechanic who was always looking for drills to sharpen. They were NOT bits, and I still cringe when I have to...

Another well filtration thread, would need to be outdoor

You can’t really just filter out iron or hydrogen sulfide. An oxidation step is required. Typically green sand, possibly with air injection. I’d build a well-insulated, air-tight dog house on the side of the house with an opening into the house.
